i just tried to recognise last night..
but, after looking one by one.. i'm bit blur..  rclxub.gif
looks like all are same..

Let them grow up a bit, then it will be very easy to identify.

Friends, I want to have gerbils too.

mr.tikusniaga,
if we wait until we see their ball to identify the sex..
then possibility it will mate before we saperated...
*
Hahaha .... Kembara could be right.

BUT I wouldn't mind. tongue.gif

However, with knowledge, you can identify by assessing the distance between the vulva and anus. If the two holes were close to each other, then it would be female.

If the pups are still furless but above 5 days old, you can tell by looking at the underside, females have 6 nipples, males have none.

That is ONE GOOD tip. rclxms.gif Kudos to jaswwp.

What do you mean you wouldn't mind? You should because it'll be considered inbreeding la kawan.. -.-"
*
If my gerbils accidently got pregnant and have no means to raise them, I will sell them at RM1.50 a piece. I certainly know, there are many buyers for them.

Yet, with due respect, I wouldn't want to do it. I prefer to sell mice pinkies.

It seems you do not understand what I'm trying to say about 'inbreeding'.. it means matings between siblings. Which is not good. Therefore, you should mind la... -.-"  shakehead.gif  doh.gif
*
God created only a pair of human. Without some sort of 'inbreeding' , how do they managed to populate the earth??? Also, even in Malaysia, we still heard of 'inbreeding' of human going on. sad.gif

While I agree it is NOT GOOD to keep doing it for it will produce defects babies eventually. That is why we have to breed in new blood after 5 to 6 generations of breedings to avoid the defects.

One more point, Blue Heng, opinion always defers.

If they were meant for pets, BETTER NOT to in-breed. I guess when you treat them as feeders, it is a different story.

Well, gerbils were never meant as feeders anyway. Rats and mice still more economical and easy to breed.
*
YES, it can never be feeders. Who on earth will want to feed gerbils to snakes? 1 gerbil = 15 mice. Why not just feed mice.

We all do not untung at all.... I kira... my gerbils and hamsters' food 1 month is RM100 alone.... bedding about RM21 a month and hay around RM10 a month.... crazy rite? But each time sell, those Rm30- Rm40 goes back to the animals.... it barely covers cost. We breed here is for hobby lah... not really for business. Also the quality and colour is different from petshops. People can always go to Petaling Street's petshop and look at the gerbils there.... the gerbils are 100% scared of human and touching, will jump or kick away... also the stock there got a possibility of inbred and have hairless tails. Makan is only Kuaci and Sengkuang.... not that good rite?
*
Yes, it is true. Animals from hobbyists are always better quality. Somemore , also cheaper. thumbup.gif

so since you mentioned that you wouldn't mind, you don't treat them as pets eh? lol.. well as you've mentioned, it's your opinion.. i'm not in any position to tell you that they deserve to be treated as pets.
*
It does not matter whether I will treat them like pet or not.

There are ONLY 2 possibilities.

1) Ended up as pets ---- I gain
2) Ended up as feeders --- I gain too

SO, WHY SHOULD I MIND.

me, even if a pinkies died sedih want to buang...apalagi want to feed to snake..huhu
*
blue heng, sorry lah if you feel that way. I have no mood to judge people. (I wonder you notice that I refused to share my opinion if I have a litter of in-bred gerbils pinkies.) Anyway, at the end of the day, WE WILL ALWAYS REAP WHAT WE SOW. We cannot run away from it.

blue heng, may peace be with you. icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks , kembara, for you peace-maker role. thumbup.gif

I got 2 gerbils now. BUT I still want more .... very addicting

I think I am going to advocate gerbils as great thumbup.gif pet. Definately not deserve to be feeders. I really like the less odor feature of this pet.

Pictures of my 2 gerbils and their home, also spare tanks.

btw if you put in hay, they will make nests... chew the stalks up to bits and construct their own home, quite interesting to watch.

Good idea, will get hay. Can get from pet shop , right?? jaswwp.

Then will take pictures again and share with you all.
