Hi Guys,
I am driving a stock standard, un-mod FWD car, manual transmission.
Been using monograde SAE 140 for like 3 years but now I am feeling it's due time to change the oil.

Was curious whether this specially formulated LSD oil can be used in FWD manual box without any LSD gears?

Anyone also using 75W-80 for everday bumper-to-bumper traffic?

Could you guys recommend me an oil, which can be used for "sometimes" racing application to even short-distance drives?

Thanks guys

It is not recommended to use LSD oil for non-LSD gearbox. Furthermore, LSD oils are not more slippery. It is actually thicker than normal gearbox oil as there's more stress on the LSD.

What I find odd is that your gearbox oil that you are using now has the same weight as LSD oil, SAE 140. Most normal cars use either 90 or 75W-90 multigrade.

Any synthetic manual transmission oils available in KL?

I know Redline has a few in its range, but last I checked (and that was some years ago), Autobags didn't carry them.

Redline still has synthetic gearoils, i'm using them.
Autobags seems to have disappeared already, when i went looking for their shop couldn't find it and i asked around there they said shifted already. I bought mine for RM55 for the MTL i think at Eneos 1 Utama. Kakimotor at Midvalley also sells Redline products.

You are not suppose to use LSD tansmission fluid for regular manual gearbox without LSD.

I bought the Redline Manual Transmission Fluid (MTL) for RM55 from Autobags 2 years ago and even the sales person also say I'm not suppose to use the Redline LSD MTF on my stock Iswara gearbox and the regular Redline MTL is already the best choice.

Check with AutoChild
He carry Redline,Q8 and Royal Purple.

ENEOS has it, but I doubt their prices; they always mark up much more than outside pricing.
My needs 2.5L, so thats 3 bottles of 1L.

Hi sleepwalker,
Thanks for your reply.
My manual (that I have), doesn't state a specific gearbox oil viscosity. It however gives a viscosity chart. The max it can go is SAE140.

In this the case, is it okay to use SAE 80W in our climate? A quick check with someone's Proton Wira manual and states ""Hypoid gear API GL-4 SAE 75W-85W or 75W-90W"

What I am aiming for is better FC, and at the same time good level of protection for my gearbox, because I feel my manual tranny is sensitive to oil quality. LAst time I've used a SAE90 gear oil with the brand name "NASA"..well it short lived before it's due OCI and when it was due time,at one time, I had problem slotting in my 2nd and 3rd gears. That really freaked me out.
Thats why I opted for SAE140 oil, for better thermal & stress protection,IMO. But now I decided to go thinner but with a much better, reputable brand than unknown-brands.

Sorry been really busy today. Try to answer all questions in one reply.

Sean-da-man, GarisMerah still available here.

Rcracer, Autobags have moved to Puchong. I just met up with Howard a few months back and he told me that he moved to Puchong.

PC-doc, you should use multigrade whenever possible. 75-90 is best unless you have a really sick gearbox. I'm using 4L of redline MTL 75-90 for front gearbox and 1L of Redline LSD for the rear diff.
