Recently, i experienced this problem..

Whenever i shift into 1st and 2nd gear, at times it is hard for me to get it out of the engage position to shift to the next gear. The feeling is as if the gear stick is stuck in engage position and i have to use a bit of force to get it out.

the funny thing is, this does not happen all the time... only occasionally and after the car has been running for some time. 3rd, 4th and 5th gears no problem.

a mechanic friend suggested that i check my gear oil and brake oil (as it is shared with the clutch?) i dunno.. but i havent done these yet.

btw, my car is a putra..

any ideas?? rclxub.gif

There's no indicator for the oil in manual gearboxes, usually they just fill until it overflows slightly that's all. And the clutch doesn't share brake oil, it just uses the same type of oil only not sharing the same system.

Try changing the gear oil and at the same time check if your clutch is worned out because a worn clutch gives the same symptoms of hard gear shifts.

so most probbably a change in gear oil and possibly clutch oil will help solve this?

Not a guranteed solution, it might just be one of the problem.Worst case scenario is the synchromesh is kaput and that usually means a new g/b.

Care to tell what's the reasoning to change an engine when only the gearbox is not working?

just try to ask the mech to open and check.....most likely gear oil needs replacement and worse is probably time for clutch change.....

better bring someone like dad or friend who is good in car terms so that the mech dun simply give you grandmother and grandfather stories...
