Let say, there are uneven road for like 5-10 meter long. U are driving 60-80 km/h now. And, you need to cross this uneven road. what speed we should choose so that our car have minimal impact?

A - brake and pass it using something like 40-60 km/h.
(note that this mean we will hav longer time to staying at/cross the uneven road, just may be minimal impact, let forget about the safety issue first)

B - keep it like 60-80 km/h, dun brake and just cross it. (balance impact, and balance time staying at/cross the uneven road)

C- speed it up to 100 km/h to cross it (i believe have max impact but use less time staying at/cross the uneven road)

note that our car have to feel more impact when staying in uneven road longer time?!

what do yours say?

hmmm...for me depends:-

1) if the uneven road is just small patches.....just continue driving at the speed and find the best possible line through it

2) if there is large potholes, either avoid it totally or slow down and drive through very slow (20kmh).....slow down meaning hitting the brake at very early stage and not hitting the brake like emergency......this is to avoid accidents ......

3) i will never increase my speed over uneven road unless i am in a hurry/emergency.....

what i am concern is that,

if u slow down and pass through it. U may need longer time to pass it. Let say 10 sec, then ur car feel impact within 10sec.

if u speed, u may need lee time to pass it. Let say 5 sec, then ur car feel impact within 5sec.

of course, we need to care of the size of the impact. slow hav min impact, fast of course more hurt lo...

So, can i say that the

H = (T X S ) / 100 where

H is Hurt
T is Time to pass
S is Size of impact... tongue.gif

So.. i can conclude it as " drive slow when cross uneven road "

i understand what you mean but you have overlooked one part, which is the threshold of the rims, tyres, alignment and absorbers/spring.

the formula makes sense.  but your explanation lacks a little. Though T decreases with speed, but S increases with speed.  The thing here that you are missing is how much T decreases and how much S increases.

In my humble opinion,

Say you increase speed, T will decrease linearly but S will increase exponentially making H very high.  Since T will never be 0(zero) there is no way H will ever be low.  This means that there will always be significant amount of H(hurt) to your car at high speed. rclxub.gif

Say you decrease speed, T will increase and S will decrease. Say you reduce your speed to about 30-40km/h, you might be ablt to decrease the S to almost 0(zero) where you do not feel much impact to your car as most of the uneveness is absorb by the car tyres, spring and absorbers.  This means that H will be almost 0 since S is almost 0  drool.gif

he he he......so......just drive how you see fit.......experience tells me that driving fast through uneven road means changing absorber faster!!!!

you can always drive faster if you are confident of your car but never ever drive fast past potholes.......

I am actually driving Myvi... Yet, i think my car stock suspenssion is not so good... Always vibrate like hell when passing the road especially uneven road.

The rear window is shaking like hell.... So, i wonder to speed or not to speed when cross the uneven road.

the conclusion is, slow down and change a better suspension.. haha
