Hi everybody,

I will soon join the WC club as I have ordered lots of nice stuff to clawhammer smile.gif

I have also started a worklog on my build project (Silverstone TJ-07): http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1132713

As of right now, I am still waiting for the WC gears to arrive, but I will surely need advice to setup the WC stuff once it will be there. So anyone is welcome to check my worklog and post their ideas/advices/comments wink.gif

distilled water from 7eleven, jusco... = cheaper solution
I just want to run "clear water" in my loop so the other coolants doesn't interest me smile.gif

The distilled water from 7eleven / jusco is labeled as distilled water or something else ? Is it in the auto department ? I'll go grab some tomorrow wink.gif

What about the Petronas battery water I bought ? Would it be okay ? I just bought for flushing atm

I think battery water is supposed to be either distilled or deionized. But since I'm not too sure, it is probably a safer bet to go directly for distilled water.

Ok. So I have tried to find distilled water in a small DIY shop nearby, Tesco, Houz depot, 7eleven and Giant today without success. Either it is not easy to find or I don't know where to look but I really can't find anywhere

So the person who are using distilled water, can you please tell me where EXACTLY are you getting it ? In which department of which shop in which town ? (preferably PJ, but if it is KL I'll go there) ?

According to clawhammer it is okay to run on battery water, but since I just spent close to 2K on my WC gear, I rather be safe than sorry wink.gif

You've made the right choice Martin laugh.gif I've been with distilled and battery water since day one, never used coolant. Anyway, here's a lazy man's work on WC setup:

Hey your rig is nice !

Where did you get the sleeving for the ATX cable ? I ordered some but after starting sleeving, I am not liking it. The one I have becomes transparent after extending it and you can see the color of the wire though. sad.gif

The problem is, I don't understand how could distilled or battery water kill anything. These are all science so unless someone can explain pure water would make the copper explode or some sort of chemical behaviour then I think it's absolutely impossible anything would happen smile.gif
*
What I am worry is that some battery water may be a very low quality deionized/distilled water which aren't really safe wink.gif

QUOTE(owikh84 @ Aug 23 2009, 10:18 PM)
Look for Spritzer Distilled water 5L for RM5 from any hypermart.
Sorry for the noob question but in which department of the hypermart do you find it ? Auto department ? With other drinking waters department ? House cleaning products department ?

Oh, you mean regular Spritzer water. First, I didn't know this is distilled water and second I thought distilled / deionised water is not drinkable (it doesn't mean if you drink a glass you would die, but more like only drinking pure distilled/deionised water for weeks/months would not be good)

I am wondering if they are not actually adding some stuff after distilling it

hmm.gif

EDIT: After some search, it seems distilled water is perfectly drinkable. No wonder I couldn't find distilled water, I was trying to find everywhere except at the water / drink department laugh.gif

I am waiting for the motherboard tray to come back from painting. Without it I can't do much at the moment.

I wanted to sleeve my PSU this WE, but I am not happy with the sleeving I ordered. It is too transparent and I can clearly see the color of the wires through. I'm going today to Jln Pasar to try to find something better.

Yo Martin, you're right that the sleeving is not good enough because you'll still be able to see the colors of the wires after you sleeve smile.gif What I did was to color the wires with black marker pens before putting the sleeves on.
*
The problem is I want to sleeve in white so it is difficult ... except maybe if I spray paint the wires laugh.gif

No, the thing is to find the right sleeving. The one I got is composed by 1 wire for the braid. The one I want is composed with several wires (not sure if you get waht I mean). with the second type, you can't see through as the braiding is much tighter.

I checked on the Net and it seems I have to look for Techflex PET and I might be able to find it in Jln Pasar.

Yeah, that'll be tough and we just need better sleeves smile.gif If you can find them in Jalan Pasar then it'll be good as I'd like to get some for myself too. Lesser work to do as I don't need to colour off the wires to black before I start sleeving laugh.gif
*
I found some sleeving, but they had only white color (which is good for me as it is the color I was looking for),

You can check the update on my build there for more detail: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1132713/latest

Oh and look what I found today in my store room:

I completely forgot I had this 3 bottles. I bought them last time the management warned there might be water disruption in my condo. It is written "process-distillation", so I guess it should be okay ? Is it what you was talking about owikh84 ?

Correct me if im wrong but i believe that distilled waters like those sold in hypermarkets and such are not free of all minerals. It's stated on the back of the bottle.

Im not sure how the minerals will cause mineral deposits over a long period of time. Some people report of white sediments at the bottom of their res after 6 months of running. But then again, it could be because of something else.

What I did was, i went to AA Pharmacy in Bangsar, Lucky Garden, and asked them for distilled water. It's cheaper than buying those battery water.
*
Actually, on the side of the bottle, it specifies how much sodium, magnesium, vitamins, fat and what not => everything shows 0. So it seems it is really pure distilled water.

But thanks for letting me know for the pharmacy wink.gif

I've been thinking of using food coloring
Any comment?

Yet to see any review on it
It'd be great to see if anybody can come out with one
Would like to see the effect of cyclic thermal loading

I think I read somewhere that the food coloring tends to separate after a while and it also tarnish tubing and blocks. Try to check on xtremesystems forum, I think the question as already been raised wink.gif

Nope, just plugged in. I wouldn't dare lapping the WB. I did lap my old E4300 but I haven't for my current Q6600.

and how is custom WC be of any better than this? similar mishap did happen in custom WC history bro, mind to point out the difference and further elaborate on this matter?
*
It doesn't happen if you choose good and reliable components. All the Thermaltake and other so called WC budget sets are not reliable and you end up most of the time with some hardware killed. Most important component being the pump since if you hooked up your WC correctly (= no leak), that's the only component that can fail.

Swiftech pumps are rated for 50,000 hours MTBF = 5 years lifetime for 24/7 operation ... I guess you get what you pay for wink.gif

QUOTE(clawhammer @ Sep 24 2009, 01:52 AM)
I normally start the PSU without the motherboard and see if there's any leakage. That's the only thing I do and I've never done any specific leak test but after all these years, I'm still doing fine biggrin.gif You just have to make sure all the barbs are tighten and your tubings are tightly fitted.
*
In my case, I'm doing the leak testing with all the required hardware hooked up (mobo, CPU and GPU if you have your GPU in the loop). Obviously, I only powers the pump.

The reason is because although you leak test w/o hardware and have no leak, it may still leak once you put everything together. There is a thread on XS forum where people about people leak's stories, and I think there are at least 2 of them who had leak test w/o hardware but then got a leak once everything was hooked up.

It is because w/o hardware the tubing can "hang" where it wants to as it is free. But once hooked up, there may be just a little bit more stress on the tubing because then you have to make the tube go where YOU want to. In the 2 stories, that little more stress on the tubing actually made the barbs unscrews themselves just a little bit then provoking a little leak.

Moreover, even if water goes on the hardware and it's not powered, it is almost impossible that the hardware gets damaged ... except if you leave it soak in the water for 24 hours laugh.gif
If there is water, you just dry thoroughly with warm hair dryer /and/or pure alcohol and leave it dry for 24 hours.

But then clawhammer as much more experience than I have, so I guess you can also do it w/o hardware if you do it the right way tongue.gif
I am just pointing out for new comers so they can be aware of this possible problem. If you leak test w/o hardware, make sure you force the blocks to be as closed as possible as there final position to make sure the extra stress won't make the barb loose smile.gif
