redmi 4 is not worth it.
any snapdragon 625 and below is not worth it.
if you can live with 12.4GB of useable storage and usb otg, mi4 is a steal.

Why is the 625 so bad? The 801 cpu is over 2 years old and is not going to be faster than the 625, and it is a battery hog as well.

i meant any sd below the 625 is not worth it. not including 625.

x < 625
625 is actually good. battery life is great as seen on note 4x and zenfone 3. gpu is acceptably fast too. ~130GFlops.

performance is around 801 range with more efficiency.

anyway, i'm getting 6.5 hours of SOT on the mi4.
it all comes down to price, it was cheap, so why not.

The mi4 only has 1 sim slot with no sdcard slot so its quite a different phone from the redmi series and not a good fit for someone needs dual sim capability or an sdcard slot. I had the mi4i which uses the slower Snapdragon 615 for a while which had horrible battery life ~4hrs and I'll bet the 801 is similar or worse since the whole generation all had heat and power consumption issues.

If you like the Mi4 then great but its old and not as fast as the Snapdragon625. For the typical non-power user the Redmi's with 430/425 would probably not see alot of difference from the Mi4 with the 801. There are benchmarks and speedtests on youtube which compare the Mi4 and the newer Xiaomi Redmi phones which show that those phones have similar performance, and the Redmi4 using the 625 is faster than the Mi4.

Yeah the Snapdragon 801 is basically the same as the old 800 and the Redmi 1s using the Snapdragon 400 also had poor battery life. Only the current Snapdragons have improved the power consumption issues. Samsung got fed up of the Qualcomm because of heat/power issues and decided to use their Exynos cpu for their newer phones after the S4, Note4 models.

Nahhh. Rather had Redmi Note 4 instead. Just a little bit topup. Redmi 4 Prime to Redmi 4X is a downgrade. Only the screen size is the thing that I look forward to. Other than that, 4 Note by a country mile.

Redmi 4X is slightly smaller and lighter than the Prime. The Prime also doesn't support the 850 lte band.

The upcoming Redmi 5 is probably going to be lighter and slimmer as well since it is rumored to come with a 3000mAh battery.

Smaller than Prime? Glad to know that! I might go for it now before migrating to Redmi 5 later(sounds promising so far). Sacrificing FHD resolution but I just prefer compact size phone. I believe the camera is a bit better(0.2 bigger aperture) than the Prime. And most importantly, software updates. The Prime seems in the lowest in pecking order of Redmi 4 variants in term software support.

Not much smaller/lighter. From 156g to 150g. I would wait for the Redmi 5 since the released Note 5a was only 153g.

I think the 850 band will be more important in future due to 2g spectrum being decommissioned and reused for 4g.
