Btw, seems like MTP(data transfer via usb pc) isn't working. Selecting 'MTP' in Developer Option>Select USB Configuration didn't work too.

In mean time, I'm downloading the rom from here. This is the place to download the rom, yes? Probably do the clean install(fastboot method) later. Wise move?

Got the unlock message this morning and straight try to flash the ROM using XiaoMiFlash tool without actually unlock the device first with the MiFlashUnlock tool. Realising the mistake, tried to unlock the device but got this message instead.



Anyone encountered this before? Any solution?

To recall, there's no official set here in Malaysia(warranty by Xiaomi Malaysia) for Redmi 4 Prime. The only Redmi 4 that's officially available here is Redmi 4A.
Latest product they're bringing to our shore is Redmi Note 4(preorder available now on lazada).

The differences between original and AP(or import) set are:
1) warranty cover.
-- Official set warranty is covered by Xiaomi Malaysia(you can send for warranty to any Xiaomi Malaysia service centre).
-- AP set warranty is covered by the seller(warranty kedai). You can only send for warranty to the seller only.

2) ROM
-- Official set is loaded with global ROM(which has Google apps) from Xiaomi. Basically, official ROM by Xiaomi that's intended for marketplace other than China.
-- AP set ROM normally is tempered/modified ROM. Seller/vendor/distributor temper/modify the official ROM(normally China ROM) so it'll be more usable outside of China.

Hardware wise, they are both the same. They are Redmi 4 Prime from China. The difference are only warranty and software inside.
You can flash the software(ROM) to official Global or official China if you like.

Was about to flash the ROM but then read the issues on the latest 8.2.10 Global, I'm holding for a while.

Anyone using case, tempered glass on R4P? Where did you get yours? Would be nice if can update first page with helpful info.

No issue on China ROM? Current ROM is modified China ROM anyway. Working well with Google ecosystem. Worth to upgrade to official China ROM? Assuming it can run Google ecosystem perfectly.

You got yours at ridiculous price. Can't really compare to current market.

Anyone bought screen protector that fits perfectly on your R4P? Can share links?

Guys, which one is better? Full cover tempered glass(one with frame, body colour) or normal tempered glass?
I read somewhere on Aliexpress full cover tempered glass the glue is only on the frame and the glass, isn't really a glass.

Currently on soft bumper(silicone?) with hard plastic on the back type of casing.

I was just wondering which one of tempered glasses should I use. The feedback I read on full cover doesn't really convincing.
Not planning on using those type hard casing anyway. Safer yes, but too bulky for me.
I probably change to something like these.

Setting > Installed App(under the App Settings) > Defaults( at the bottom) > Launcher > Pick your installed launcher.

Never tested it but I guess it'll work.

I'm not sure if original Malaysia set comes with Malaysia standard plug(but I bet it should be) but having 2 pin China standard plug doesn't make the phone a fake. You probably got AP set there(China set).
However, you can verify the authenticity of your phone here under the "Verify your phone purchase" tab.

Found a really cool, useful mod. Those tech savvy enough can try this. You'll need unlocked bootloader with TWRP installed.

Basically the mod adds additional features​ on stock camera app(you won't lose scene mode!). Time lapse, square mode, manual with focus and shutter control and a few bunch more features which make the camera app more complete.
