No1 AMD fan is not impressed with Vega performance reveal.
I've expected this too. It's Fury X all over again.

QUOTE(Acid_RuleZz @ Jan 13 2017, 02:08 PM) He's not AMD no.1 fanboy so that is expected. Yea the performance is not impressive and according to Raja that is the top Vega though it's still an early test chip with early driver. It is high end meaning that, there will be only 1 Vega variance at launch. The so called bigger Vega is probably going to arrive later. Very late. What confused me is that Raja told it's the high end Vega chip but early Doom 4K footage show it only have 8GB of VRAM. My expectation on Vega is clear. If they price it right, maybe in between 1070-1080, it put enough pressure for Nvidia to lower their 1080 price, and release the 1080ti to take back the performance crown. If Vega is up against 1080 in term of pricing, well AMD is not saint as everyone thought. This post has been edited by ruffstuff: Jan 13 2017, 02:16 PM |

QUOTE(marfccy @ Jan 16 2017, 07:00 PM) im sorry, what? Nvidia has always been pricing their flagships at that range, look at legacy products during their release. the reason the prices feel higher has always been due to our recently depreciating currency and inflation. The problem is, 1080 is not even a flagship. It is a flagship in price, but it is like 3 to 4 skus below the 'Flagship'. Last 3-4 yrs back, nvidia has always releasing the full fat chip as the highest end gpu. But now, since it is lack of competition from AMD, they can release their 3rd or 4th best as the 'flagship'. profit margins for pc hardware are already horrible enough yet you want them to reduce by 70%? seriously? you think those R&D are cheap? AMD recently announced that top of the line cards are not their main focus already, theyre now focusing on capturing the low-mid end range which is significantly bigger than the niche high end market. i myself, am not happy they way the hardware are priced atm, but these arent necessities, i couldnt careless if i cant catch up to the every latest best tech released. get one of the best you can at that current tech, and enjoy your time with it until its time for the next upgrade. As for targeting the mainstream, AMD is not even dominated. They are not focusing the high end, because they don't have the high end chip ready on time. That was just an excuse to me for saying we are focusing on the volume market. Nvidia has equally the same share on that segment as well. And they have all segment covered. RX480 is not that cheaper compare to the equivalent 1060. They are not pricing their mainstream card aggressively. It just another option to consider if you don't like nvidia. |

Is Vega diffused at the GloFO or TSMC? I wonder what cause the high TDP. I think the blame is on GloFo?
AMD Ryzen doesn't have the bad TDP, but it suffers the clock speed limitation due to manufacturing limitation under GloFo. |

Vega FE is not a gaming card. And it is also true for RX Vega 64.
