No1 AMD fan is not impressed with Vega performance reveal.

I've expected this too.  It's Fury X all over again.
*
He's not AMD no.1 fanboy so that is expected. Yea the performance is not impressive and according to Raja that is the top Vega though it's still an early test chip with early driver.
What confused me is that Raja told it's the high end Vega chip but early Doom 4K footage show it only have 8GB of VRAM. hmm.gif

It is high end meaning that, there will be only 1 Vega variance at launch.  The so called bigger Vega is probably going to arrive later. Very late.

My expectation on Vega is clear.  If they price it right, maybe in between 1070-1080, it put enough pressure for Nvidia to lower their 1080 price, and release the 1080ti to take back the performance crown.

If Vega is up against 1080 in term of pricing, well AMD is not saint as everyone thought.
*
If that is the case and that Vega is faster than 1080, then the price should be at least similar to 1080 not lower imo.

QUOTE(Oyaji @ Feb 6 2017, 06:15 PM)
Thanks for the replies. Actually If I buy either one of those cards I just want to run stock.

Some people say when they watched jayz video they said he got very lucky he got the better variations of the card.

I decide on a RX480 since many say that the card will last longer in terms of support (updates etc) and after a bit of reading the latest updates made the card now perform much better.
*
Jayz 480 GTR is definitely silicon lottery, i've seen 480 GTR barely overclock to 1400mhz and some get to 75c-80c at stock.
But it is one of the best build RX-480 alongside 480 Strix and maybe Nitro.

MSI Gaming is no slouch either, so try to pick the cheapest between all these 4 cards.

QUOTE(g104 @ Feb 6 2017, 08:33 PM)
for AMD users, i highly recommended match with higher end processor

*
From Haswell Core-i3 is good enough for Polaris imo, for older gen you need i5 at least from my experience.

QUOTE(kundek @ Feb 7 2017, 09:10 AM)
y my crimson relive got no record funtion..on 17. something

Did you try reinstall the driver? Or use DDU.

QUOTE(Oyaji @ Feb 7 2017, 06:02 PM)
I think my i7 3770 is still capable.
If we refer to the current pricing, well the Sapphire Nitro is the cheapest.
I saw RX 470 in 8 gb. Is it better to buy that or stick with the original plan by getting the rx480?
I mostly play in 1080p.
*
I don't know how to answer this, 8GB is probably the better choice in the long run but when? I know the new RE is very heavy on texture but the impact is much smaller when you turn off shadow caching iirc.

If you want a tier higher overall performance the 4GB 480 is the better choice than 8GB 470 imo.

QUOTE(kundek @ Feb 7 2017, 06:34 PM)
ok DDU solve my problem aready..ty
*
Good to know..

QUOTE(S4PH @ Feb 7 2017, 07:32 PM)
ooh i jayz rx480 silicone lottery hahahaha damn power that gpu, btw i just bought a rx470 8gb from bro najmods, sold my 980ti as i got a good resale price hehehehehe.
*
najmod quit pc mastah race? ph34r.gif

How much you sell the card for? Don't feel like selling mine now.. waiting for real gimping driver then baru can sell. tongue.gif

not to sure najmod quit or not, sold my 980ti as im planning for a ps4 pro, i had a r9 380 as backup but gpu dieded all of a sudden and sent for rma, no gpu. price he sold to me is reasonable gpu very new actually. Not too bad la this rx470 can play rise of tomb raider at very high settings dx12 @ 1080p very well.
*
Ahh.. i was thinking about getting one as well but now thinking about borrowing from a friend instead because i only want to play 2-3 games. laugh.gif

Rx-470 is as powerful as your old R9-290 but perform much faster in Gameworks/CPU intensive games.. try drive in pCars to see the difference if you still play that game. tongue.gif

I'm using 1050 Ti but if AMD could come out with a better GPU and using just 125W or below, I'll swap back again.
*
If you downvolt RX-470 it will happily use under 125w.

Yeah, wait for another better version than RX 470 for now.
*
When the card is out you probably will still say "I'm currently using <insert next gen xx50 card>, i hope AMD have better GPU and using just 125W or below, I'll swap back again".
It's a never ending cycle. tongue.gif

QUOTE(Oyaji @ Feb 8 2017, 05:18 PM)
I did a quick look between xfx rx480 GTR and Sapphire rx 480 nitro.
the XFX one has core clock of 1338 Mhz while Sapphire 1342 Mhz.
Lets say if I purchase the Sapphire and underclock it to the same core clock as the XFX one will I be able to achieve the same cooling performance?
*
Like Sai86 mentioned, undervolting is better way to reduce your temp

As former user of R7 260x, it lasted me from 2014 to 2016 end but with sluggish performance as it goes and never can reach High settings... Hope Vega GPU can amaze me this year!
*
Can't expect much from relatively low end/entry level card from 2013 imo.

Will u guys swap gtx970 from r9 290?
*
Depend on what games you'll be playing mostly and if the cooling performance is better.

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Feb 11 2017, 12:13 PM)
Still no confirmed release date for RX 490/490X?
My PowerColor DEVIL R9 390X is getting worse everyday, more artifacts is displaying while playing games & it only has 13 months of warranty left sweat.gif
*
What artifacts? laugh.gif

QUOTE(sniperz @ Feb 11 2017, 01:43 PM)
ASUS version also much better.
*
Only applicable to Polaris, previous gen Asus graphic for AMD cards is pretty shitty especially on higher end model.

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Feb 11 2017, 03:13 PM)
Small boxes appearing here & there while playing several games & some games even crashes back to desktop
The card is factory overclocked to 1150MHz
Downclocked the card to 1100MHz then everything is smooth again

The water pump on the GPU also sometimes doesn't run when the PC hasn't been turned on for several days, had to knock softly on the back of the GPU then only the pump will work

Want to wait until RX 490 is released because if I RMA now, afraid they will only replace it with RX 480 sweat.gif
*
Did you try to add more voltage on the core?

What if they still replace you with 480 even after 490 already available? laugh.gif

Mine is r9 290 windforce. Let see if I able to swap for the palit gtx970.

Want to cut down electric bill.
*
Reference Palit? If it's the Jetstream, go for it. If the lower end or reference i think your Windforce perform better.

lol, what is your average game time per week or month? I went from 180w-200w 290x to 250w-280w 980 Ti and i didn't notice any significant changes in electric bills

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Feb 11 2017, 09:55 PM)
I'm not an overclocker
Well.... not anymore, so won't be doing that tongue.gif
*
Only change the voltage so technically it's not overclocking. tongue.gif

anyone having RX480 Crossfire in their setup?

I'm able to get 2 MSI rx480 4gb at rm1900 (around 950 each).. was thinking whether anyone here has that setup ?

I had 2 Fury CF before.. sold it off after getting a gaming laptop, now thinking to build back my gaming rig..
*
IMO at that price 1070 is more reasonable choice unless the game you'll be playing have great CFX scaling and don't gulp >4GB VRAM.

Similar like last year, Nvidia dropped the bomb earlier, but will it destroy AMD's upcoming offering again? icon_idea.gif
