I was informed of this, when i went to get my dog licenses. The ban is only applicable to Penang. However, after the dog lovers' protest, the ban is lifted at the moment. And I was able to get the license for my dogs. Thank god!

Not that I'm keeping a GSD, but the whole breed banning thing is bad.
If they start with GSD today, who knows what breed they'll go after tomorrow. Rotties and dobermans probably. And then more.
We'll ended up only being allowed to keep poms and shihtzus and chihuahuas.

actually should ban Rottweiler. we can see almost every month got case Rottweiler attach ppl.

even though Cesar Milan highlighted it is not the breed but somehow Malaysian lack of understanding of manage Guard Dogs.

Ytd Astro 553 got German Shepherd at Cesar Milan Season 4 series. those who got record using Beyond PVR, enjoy. smile.gif

Really? You think it's good to punish good dog owners for the actions of bad dogs owner?

Eh last I heard, GSD is a guard dog too. You want to ban GSD too?

I can understand that owners want to cover some of the cost spent on their dogs, but to claim that people will abuse free dogs and only treat with care those they paid for, that is a total bull.

Just for the record, I'm okay with the selling of the dog.
I'm just not okay with the pretense of wanting the best for the dog through the wallet of the new owner.

My first dog was a mongrel adopted from the street, for free obviously. He was my brother and we cared for him a lot.

They r more friendly and able to accompany the elderly n children, where else GSD is an active dog that needs lotsa activities.

QUOTE(eelynsoon @ Feb 3 2014, 04:33 PM)
GSD are also more rough compare to retrievers ...

They can just jump on you and their weight will push u down. So it's a bit too risky for children n the elderly. They are very very strong dog.

So, which breed is family friendly (old people & kids) and at the same time watchful and protective when there r strangers nearby.
*
The answer is less in the breed of the dogs, but more in the training that you give to the dog.

I've seen a Golden Retriever, friendly, but doesn't know its size and strength. Will jump on you. Think that's a good dog for old people and kids?

My Doberman, trained to be friendly too, but doesn't jump on anyone. She'll go near you, and maybe rest her head on you.
She's even better with small kids. She'll walked pass by, obviously asking to be played with, but never initiate contact herself.

Adding on, I'm not saying that you should get a Doberman, but training is the key regardless of which breed.

Easy. A dog that's not socialized, kept at home all day, under the hot sun outside on the porch. Not saying this is the case in this particular incident, but Malaysian dog owners are a terrible bunch.

A dog that barks at everyone who walks past the house is NOT a good guard dog. It's a dog in need of serious help.
*

What to do?
Nervous and unsocialized dogs are the definition of guard dog by most dog keeping Malaysians.

How often do we need to bath dogs to avoid such problem? Or isit inevitable? Having ticks crawling up walls & into home is just grose.
*
Environment is an issue, so when bring your dog out for a walk, don't let it run amongst the tall grasses.
Also, if there are start dogs around your neighbourhood, then there are bound to be ticks. Don't let them hangout near your house.

Hi,  Is it true Rockweiler is less proned to tick or fleas?  Or other breeds as well?  My brother is keen to get gsd puppy.
*
You'll have to do your part in your environment to get your dog ticks-free.
All dogs regardless of breed will be attacked by ticks if given the exposure.

R u saying show line GSDs hv bad temperament? How many would agree to this?
*
LOL, how did you come to that conclusion?

He's snobbishly saying that you guys are shallow and stupid for choosing a dog based on looks instead of temperament, and not realizing that the particular looks that you guys are so enamored with are actually unhealthy deformations bred.
