QUOTE(cliffang83 @ Jan 1 2014, 05:32 PM) Before considering... do you have time for grooming the dog also do you mind about the shed fur? Dobermann r easier to train than GSD? Actually it's one of my breed option as well. Any breeders out there tht has cropped ears pups for sale?If not you should consider short fur dog... such as doberman (much more easier train) or rottweiler (need more training). I am a huge fan of GSD ever since kid time.... but I got myself doberman because i do not have the time to groom the dog or clean up the fur everyday. QUOTE(cliffang83 @ Jan 2 2014, 12:14 PM) I meant easier to train compare to Rottweiler... Doberman and GSD are almost equally easy to train. Thts d thing, I'd prefer someone w good hands to take care of the ears while they heal & stand. You can find many breeder out there. Cropped ears are done at 8 weeks which normally will be on buyer side. Also the quality of crop is depends on the skill of vet (its also an art to get nice crop) and the owner also need to know how to care for the ears till it's healed and stood up. I don't crop my dob's ears cause it looks nicer in big ears than lousy crop. Normally cropped ears dob are either puppies unable to sold in time or good quality showline dob selected by breeder. |

QUOTE(cliffang83 @ Feb 11 2014, 01:16 PM) Most protective dogs need some level of training to mix well with old people or kids..... Unless you consider those least protective breed like Labrador or golden... yet still require some training.... Bare in mind, dog are still dogs regardless of breed..... No person can give you a right answer.... even a trained dog can be bad dog if the owner do not know how to control it. QUOTE(Mr. Z @ Feb 11 2014, 01:23 PM) Hmm, you need to know what is your main intention when you get a dog. Roger tht guys. I'm particularly keen on Boxers... Thoughts?- Family pet? - Watch Dog? - Security Dog? - Hunting Dog? - Therapy and help dog? Then do a research on dogs that fit that category. Based on what you state, a dog you would like to have most is a family dog of smaller size and one that barks and alert you of any strange happenings. In that case, most dog can do reasonable watchdog duty as long as they are alert enough. You may want a smaller breed if you are a first time owner, which I suspect you are based on the question you asked. Big dogs comes with bigger responsibilities, not just from you, but your entire family. |

QUOTE(cliffang83 @ Feb 12 2014, 09:57 AM) Why not consider smaller breed and non-sporting breed? Not exactly 1st time dog owner. I've smaller breeds b4... Indoor ones & of course trained up by myself on how to behave indoors. Now I wanted a mid size/large dog outdoor to protect/guard the perimeter.Since you are like first time owner, at least if you mistakenly train up a smaller breed puppy, the damage may not be big. Bigger dog will have bigger damage if not done right. QUOTE(xecton @ Feb 12 2014, 10:49 AM) The answer is less in the breed of the dogs, but more in the training that you give to the dog. If only u could share your "Training large dogs 101" with me, tht'll b great I've seen a Golden Retriever, friendly, but doesn't know its size and strength. Will jump on you. Think that's a good dog for old people and kids? My Doberman, trained to be friendly too, but doesn't jump on anyone. She'll go near you, and maybe rest her head on you. She's even better with small kids. She'll walked pass by, obviously asking to be played with, but never initiate contact herself. Adding on, I'm not saying that you should get a Doberman, but training is the key regardless of which breed. QUOTE(cliffang83 @ Feb 12 2014, 11:49 AM) Nice share bro. I should get a couple more chihuahuas / pomeranians / pekingese instead then? |

How often do we need to bath dogs to avoid such problem? Or isit inevitable? Having ticks crawling up walls & into home is just grose.
