anyone here RETRENCHED / JOBLESS currently?

I have 1 friend who got retrenched last month (he works in an IT company in Cyberjaya - not allowed to say cos got NDA shit)... 1 month compensation.
Now he's superfucked, cos got 2 cars / 2 properties to pay. He used to pull in about RM11K ... he's in his late 30's. Wife not working and 2 kids in kindergarten.

I also have 1 friend retrenched by local bank (3 months compensation) and 3 friends in O&G all kena retrenched in September this year. One of them driving Uber but pulling in only about RM4K... not enough to pay for his commitments monthly.

My sister in manufacturing (textile) also going to kena buang in 31st December 2016. But she gets 2 months compensation because she had been working there for almost 8 years.

How are you holding up? What industry are you in?

How many months can tahan with all your commitments?

What is your backup plan? Use savings to tahan or driving Uber?

If some of you were retrenched unlawfully, i'm sure some lawyers here can advice accordingly.

I hope we can use this platform to help each other during this difficult time.

p/s Pls don't ask ppl to sell backside to make a living. Tq.

Market is bad. People starts feeling the pinch of less disposable income. Surely the extra collection of GST comes from somewhere. Money doesn't come out of thin air.

I think a few options for those who are Jobless / Retrenched are

1) Start your own business (offline / online)
2) Uber/Grab Driver
3) Leverage freelance websites (fiverr.com/Upwork/Elance) - If it suits you

Backup plan? The best back-up plan is – Earn more, keep your commitments small.

Any downturns – u don’t have to panic if you’re retrenched because you’ve got enough cushion to absorb your fall. If tomorrow I lose my job, I think I have enough to last me for a year (counting all commitments eg. insurance, house loans). Always make sure u saved at least 8 months worth of your salary that can be liquidated without loss.

Actually, when talking about retrenchment, its will be announced earlier giving you time to settle the job and prepare yourself for a new one.

Stress level will be very high during this time, most cannot sleep, eat a lot, become zombies, health problems all kick in and have problems with yourself and your family. Get agitated very easily.

And never laugh at people getting retrenched, just like my kolik, her husband laugh at her, the next week he found out he will be out of job sooner! Now her husband got high BP and a short temper.

Let me tell you one thing about companies closing down

My admin officer went to Kastam to declare the Company Closure.
Went there to see the officer and couldn't find him.
Actually, he was around at his table full of files as high as him sitting down all surrounding him!!! So you surprises our company close down too.

Later continue..

Resigning soon.

It's getting more real now. I know I'm gonna be happy but the last time I was out of job not making steady paycheck at the end of the month my self esteem really low.
That time will limit seeing friends even won't be able to score dates.
Then suddenly feel depressed a bit haha

Well, I had a few discussions with my koliks, some idea is good, some they really dunno how to manage it.

I might be wrong in my info, as I'm not an expert in financial matters.

And first thing is:

1) The most important money you need to save.
Estimate how long you will be out of job, and how much you are getting
Since my company gimme about 40months

Lets say 9 months to get a preferred job after hopping here and there, on /off work
9 month expenses like car, house, utility etc need to set a side first. This money you touch you die lol.

That's leaves me about 30 months money. The basic will be keep all in ASB to get 6% annually, but, not as easy as that.

2) Pay off all credit card. But no need to finish paying off the house or car. As long as able to pay it, continue doing it.
But need to set a limit to this. If over it, probably need to sell properties. And since got profit, 1 house can actually cover 2 houses.
Like me I'm unker and low qualification, its quite hard for me to find a job

3) Insurance now is very important. So probably gonna spend RM4~6K on this a year cos I'm jobless and no longer have company insurance.
Since I've been to Specialist Hospitals and General Hospitals, I know money matters a lot in this, I'm not getting younger and 1 fall can cost me easy 10~20K.
General Hospital service too slow.

4) The spending, OK...I'm not an angel, I want to go overseas with family see snow with them, get the latest iPhone, probably change car, etc. This one I really need to be very careful with. But that I think about another time.

What's important for me is every month I don't work, money is minus from my account. So I need to get a well paid job fast.
That one I will think about 2~3 months time before my retrenchment date. As of now, I'm relaxed and avoid stress.

since i am jobless since 8 month ago, here i will give some advise

1. Start your own business (offline / online) - i started this, due to a bit boros lifestyle during work time, so my daily target to earn at least 70% of my last time gaji, but end up rugi over 70k
2. not enough to cover the bill.
3. dont know this.

maybe can change the field

ya, super-screwed, but who to blame ? ya, jibby. =P

strip down property, sell those cars and house and accept the loses, situation will be getting worse, means the later you make the decision to sell it off the worse its, cause the economy will hit harder later, and more ppl had to sell.

I think i can survive for +- 1 year without job, just need to pay house like 1k+, car completely owned, but i dont think ill just let myself rot.

I ve been Jobless for 2 years++ after I resign from a construction company as a supervisor's unregistered right man because internal conflicts (sorry cant say the issues is p&c and it was my solid job at that time) My saving was so near to 0 due to unexpected events.
I am self paying my expenses, study funds(done college on this year January) and other bills but was unable to hold up my job flows due to depression forced to stay with mother this year's April,

Doing multiple part time jobs in a roll but only 1 part time job that has a fix time,
-My fix part time was a cook in a restaurant 1 hour Rm10 and Max Rm300 per week Fri Sat Sun Full day.

-2nd job was delivery random stuff and payed after all numbers of errand are delivered, online search and found this job doesn has a fix time 1 week about 2-5 times each day Rm120-180 job duration are in hours.

-3rd Uber driving at night time either normal day or after kitchen part time around Sunway area with my friend's car because my car is old 1996 does not meet Uber's minimum require.(I did this the most was able to hit 3k sometimes, figure out the fuel price so it was with Axia)

-4th online selling stuff and this you need to do homework and not simply self stuffs that is beyond market prices properly you can ask your friend to sell things from the house. For me I was already doing online sale since many years ago but lost contacts phone stolen, and is difficult to start again just lucky that found 1 of my suppler, mobile phone gadgets.

Last is search for a job that is only apply 1 time and age has no limit duration only a few hours or half a day, event helper, mystery guests or shopper, flyer distribution so far I did these they pay are usually Rm100-Rm150 or more depends on wages.(Find for vacancy everyday on online or from outdoor)

To sustain multiple job paid about Rm200 or so for blood pressure+cholesterol reduction pills to avoid long sleeping hours or fatique and chlorophyll water to boost your work force. Drink more water and changed food diet to beat daily money spend for saving money.

Use saving to sustain I tak sokong since that's the only money you have, use it wisely properly buy and sell for a slight regeneration rather than sitting duck i think.

Unbalanced end payment, 4k-8k and is bloody not worth it for own health and I aint the lucky one.

Hope your friend able to maintain srsly

cheers

Wanna find job fast fast!

Every month I not working a lot of money minus from that account to pay for bills and expenses.
And I no more getting younger.

Not GLC, normal MNC company, I think our Union is the first in Johor for Managers, but its limited to certain level only, and those in HR and Accounts of course cannot join it. But good that the company give all managers same benefit.

Own biz..no way, I got 0 experience in Biz

I'm more to losing money doing a few business than gain money.

And I've to cover my months expenses of about RM6K.

Anyway, I've got special License from Gov for certain skill set not everyone has, probably joining a consultant and selling the license to company that needs it, contact basis. But that's another story.

Nowadays its hard to plan for the future, u might have job today but tomorrow not guaranteed yet.. best is to plan for tomorrow only and make the best of today.

I found out that people with unique skills can survive longer.. should have invested in skills since young age (singing, crafting, painting,dancing,.. etc..)

Recently got retrenched from offshore OnG with 2 years of experience =[, 27 years old

now possible have two offers

Manufacturing : Product Design Engineer

Downstream petrochemical/chemical : Rotating equipment engineer.

May I know which one should i go for?

1st option
Environment: The manufacturing have more work life balance, friendly boss.

Career opportunity: I feel like it is a very broad skills, can easily be replaced next time. however the company i feel it is more stable in current market situation, not sure about the future. I start all over as a fresh grad.

for 2nd option,
Environment: i think have more OT. More indians working here so not sure about the integration
Career opportunity: The skill i feel that it is not easily replaceable compare to the previous one, hence if there is demand, the pay will be good. However it is closely related to OnG. if i can ride through this difficult time, i think this job is better in long term.

Can all with experience on making career decision give me advice? thanks! correct me if i am wrong, but I am more inclined towards 2nd option as my previous boss said the skill learned can be used in all the chemical plant around the world. so i dont have to worry about in future got retrenched again and cant find a job.

since i am jobless since 8 month ago, here i will give some advise

1. Start your own business (offline / online) - i started this, due to a bit boros lifestyle during work time, so  my daily target to earn at least 70% of my last time gaji, but end up rugi over 70k
2. not enough to cover the bill.
3. dont know this.

maybe can change the field

Is hardly to see any audit firm or business consultant to retrench ppl.
*
audit firm high turnover ...

accountants are the safest job you can possibly have

business consultants are extremely risky... Deloitte consultancy Malaysia recently just merged with SEA due to lack of business if im not mistaken.

unlike overseas, Malaysia tend to lack the demand for consultancies as Malaysians do not believe in spending money for someone else's advise.

1 solid advise from my experience.

DO NOT further your study because you got retrenched or out of job.

Unless you are filthy rich, studying a master or other postgraduate just because you can't get a job is a bad idea. You will incur more debt and once you got you postgraduate qualification, there is no guarantee that it will improve your chances in getting a job.

it will improve chances to get job if you only got Spm but looking for professional job, and future also easier to climb up.

This is the key factor that most people simply don't know or play ignorant to.

Nowadays it's best to keep commitments minimum and not simply follow everything other people do. Live within means and don't follow the stupid advice "you need to have more commitments to force yourself to earn more money".

People marry, I also marry lah.
People breed, I also breed lah.
People got new car, I also want new car lah.
People buy house, I also want to buy house lah.
People die, I also die lah.

QUOTE
Dear [your boss’ name],
Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as [position title] with [company name]. My last day will be [your last day—usually two months from the date you give notice].

Thank you so much for the opportunity to work in this position for the past [amount of time you’ve been in the role]. I’ve greatly enjoyed and appreciated the opportunities I’ve had to [a few of your favorite job responsibilities], and I’ve learned [a few specific things you’ve learned on the job], all of which I will take with me throughout my career.

During my last two months, I’ll do everything possible to wrap up my duties and train other team members. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to aid during the transition.
I wish the company continued success, and I hope to stay in touch in the future.
