After a long hiatus. Finally a new Musical by the director of Whiplash.

La La Land is a 2016 American romantic musical comedy-drama film written and directed by Damien Chazelle, and starring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, J. K. Simmons, Finn Wittrock, Tom Everett Scott, & Rosemarie DeWitt.

Synopsis - Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone) are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.

Not playing widely (as expected), so might not be able to catch this.

As usual these type of awards season movie generally make less money than Hollywood blockbusters and usually not worth the cost. So kudos for them for bringing this in! (Hacksaw Ridge on the other hand... hmm).

Loved his previous work "Whiplash".

One swoop and "La La Land" already garnered way more awards/nominations than Damien Chazelle's previous film.

Not a musical fan in the first place, but saw some reviews that non musical moviegoers enjoying this thought might want to give it a go. Clearly not my kind of movie. Its not bad but I don't its that great either giving all the heaps and praise this movie received. Same goes to Whiplash last time. Definitely not really in my alley. I guess Oscar buzz movie doesn't bode well with me.

La La Land is a love letter, a walk to memory lane of the musical in 50ties n 60ties. Think West Side Story, Marry Poppins n My Fair Lady. It's ambitious, it's vibrant, it's colorful, it's beautiful n well acted. I urge ppl to give it a shot to immerse in a different kind of cinematic experience. It will pull ur heart strings in love, passion and dreams. La La Land is a masterpiece 5/5.

Yeah this movie references a lot of things to the classical era Hollywood and I only got a few of it like the ones from Casablanca. For jazz there a few. The movie itself is interesting with musical pieces. I rarely watch old musicals so can't really compare to be honest.
