Hi guys,

I have been using my MacBook Pro 16 inch for a few years. But recently my display have some serious issue.

Every time I play Diablo 3, my display would suddenly go blank with some annoying lines appearing. After that the screen start to display the frozen game with very blur images (as attached in this message) and then the loud sound appears. Not knowing what to do I force my MacBook to shut down and restart. bangwall.gif

Please kindly help detailed me step by step on what to do. My computer skills is really very bad.

I hope my MacBook can still be saved and I don't need to fork out additional money to buy a new one.

Thanks in advance for your help. notworthy.gif

It seems that your GPU soldering is loose, for the time being you can turn it round and apply pressure to try to re-seat the gpu. This is just a temporary fix.. To permanently fix the GPU, you need to reball the chip. Go see maccore in cova. They will do it for you at a reasonable price.

Maybe another could be a connector problem but with the lines and the problem you described most likely is the GPU.

You should call up the center to first verify if it is a problem under their warranty list before taking the hassle to backup.

They will usually not wipe your drive without first consulting you. If it has something to do with logic boards, they should in theory leave your drive intact. Unless you are worried about the security of your files, then that is totally another matter.

Try VR Technology first if you are to decide to send it in before trying mac city.

Hi Bro. Sorry to hear that.

But for 2011 model, you are eligible to get your graphic card replace for FREE untill end of this year, December 2016.

Few of my friends already changed theirs. Took 1-2 weeks. Can send to any Apple Service Centre. But recommended QCD Technology @ Berjaya Times Square

Thanks for the info.

I send my Macbook Pro to one of the Apple's authorised service provider.

During the first diagnostic, only my VTS (Video Testing System) has issues as shown by the yellow triangle exclamation marks. So after that the technician wanted to do a second diagnostic to which I agree. He told me to wait and so I went elsewhere. After the second diagnostic, the technician showed me that the video test passed to my surprise.

The rest of the other compartments have green ticks marks to imply that they are doing well. However the technician claimed that since my graphic card is okay (based on the second diagnostic), it could have been caused by other issues and changing the graphic card would not resolve my issue.

How the video test "passed" is really strange indeed and I insist them to do further checking since I have already clarified another shop that it's a graphic card issue. Furthermore I have the attached photos to prove that there is something wrong with my MBP. Their engineer will go through it in about a week and hopefully they will just change my graphic card instead of claiming that somewhere else is problematic.

I wonder at times whether they are trying to blame other parts as the culprit so they need not change the graphic card for free.

Did your friends' Macbook runs well after changing the graphic card?

Hope their MBP is doing well after the change of the graphic cards.

I send to A-Lab an authorized Apple repair centre in Singapore.

They hint that they may have additional charges if it's nothing to do with the graphic card.

But I am doubtful because I saw in their first diagnostic everything is okay except for the video.

Its definitely graphic issue. Nothing else. 2011 got problem with graphic card. Some got some none. Depends on luck.

One of my friend sent for the first time and same like yours, they did VTS and passed. After few weeks problem came back and sent back to them and they changed it for free.

I had a somewhat similar problem. Sent in 2-3 times for repair and still had the same problem. I complained to Apple Support and they were great enough to send me a brand new replacement. However mine was only around 4 months old when that happened.

Good to know. So I will just insist that they change the graphic card for me even if they says otherwise.

Thanks for the tips.

Yes they just changed it for free. Seems like not much problem but I still have to monitor my MacBook. Have 3 months to report any problem to them.

If your MacBook falls under the category, you should change your graphic card for free which expires by this year end.
