Okay, Im seeing it like this. You buy the car and hold a grant to lease the car to whoever wished to participate by your own rules say for example the routes, time schedules and whatelse related, by a certain fee. It might be cheaper than renting a car because the owner will be looking for like 50% or heck it might be more than 100% of the installment, if the pool is big and healthy enough. Im guessing there will be an app/kiosk/center for this so you'll know whereabouts your gremlin(s) are.

Another form of public transport/service where monopoly or fierce competition since each has its own income or th7ngs could turned out to be a legislative mayhem like uber.

It's not really a brand new idea la, manufacturers been talking about this for awhile now. I even know someone in Malaysia planning to implement unlocking cars with your smartphone, except in this case the device can be adapted to any car.
This new company may be the first to implement it, but every other manufacturer can install this system to their cars within a year. At that point then Lynk will only be judged based on the quality of their vehicles, which are yet to be seen.

The heart of all Lynk cars is not the engine, but Ericsson's 4G system, which keeps the car connected to the cloud 24/7 without needing a phone. This secure high-speed network supports an open (HTML5-based) platform developed by Microsoft and Chinese e-commerce empire Alibaba. This digital environment will give third-party businesses the opportunity to develop apps for the car, making the touch screen behave exactly like your smartphone. Lynk & Co will have its own app store, while the data collected by the car will also speed up the automaker's R&D and improve your GPS navigation and other features through over-the-air software updates. And when it's time for a tune-up, Lynk & Co will simply pick up the vehicle when it's convenient for you and take it to a Volvo service center, timing maintenance visits based on data collected during normal use.

What can make Lynk & Co cars particularly affordable is the possibility of car sharing. According to the nascent automaker, young people don't want to own anything bigger than an iPad nowadays. So if you can lease a 01 using their subscription model and rent it out to others by sharing its digital key through a dedicated app, you can get close to having a free car with none of the hassles of traditional car ownership...

Everything You Need To Know About Lynk & Co's New Business Model To Sell And Share Cars

Tycho De Feijter ,  CONTRIBUTOR

Last week Geely launched their new “global car brand” Lynk & Co in Gothenburg, Sweden. One day later the whole circus got into a chartered airplane and flew to Berlin in for the unveiling of the brand’s business model. Well, at least they don’t mind spending some money.

Lynk & Co says the business model is “new” and will “challenge auto industry conventions”. Will they? Here is what we know:

Selling

The first Lynk & Co car is an SUV called the 01. It will go on sale in China in the fourth quarter of 2017, followed by Europe and the United States, but the brand has given no exact timetable.

In China, there will be a network of company-owned stores where buyers can try and buy the car just like in a traditional dealer. In addition to that, buyers will also be able to order the car via the internet and Lynk & Co will deliver it to their homes. The internet operation will be run in cooperation with the e-commerce giant Alibaba.

Whenever the car needs service or has a problem it will be collected and returned by Lynk & Co. The owner never needs to see a garage.

Lynk & Co will do away with the existing concept of trim levels and options. Instead, it will offer just a few fully equipped variants with a fixed price. The company calls these variants “collections.”

The combination of company-owned stores and internet ordering is very similar to Tesla’s famed business model. The tie-up with Alibaba is not exactly new either. BYD, Maserati, Roewe, and Smart, among others, have sold cars in China with Alibaba.

However, those were one-time events for selling a small series; like a special-edition or a launch-edition. Lynk & Co will permanently sell via Alibaba. The collect & return service is common in China among high-end brands but definitely new for a mainstream brand like Lynk & Co.

The simplification of the ordering process and fixed pricing is relatively new. Various other brands have tried it before, most famously Saturn with its “no-haggle” pricing. The cancellation of options in favor of fully equipped cars will save money in production, but the apparent lack of a low-spec base model might costs the brand buyers.

Sharing

It was widely expected that Lynk & Co would launch a car sharing program where it would retain ownership of the vehicles, similar to Mercedes-Benz Car2Go. But they didn’t. Instead, they have come up with a system where the ownership can be shared or where the owner can share the car with others. Here is how it works:

Lynk & Co will go completely keyless, replacing the key with a smartphone app connected to a Lynk & Co cloud. This will allow a group of people to buy and own one Lynk & Co car, for example a family or a group of friends. They will use the app to reserve the car when they will need it. The software will also automatically split ownership costs. An owner will also be able to rent the car out when he doesn’t need it, pretty much like home owners can rent out their house via AirBnB. An app will match the owners with renters.

Lynk & Co has said they will offer leasing, but they didn’t announce any details.

The car-ownership sharing idea is certainly new. Buying one car with a family makes some sense. But for a group of friends? They all want it on the weekend! The renting-out part of the plan is very new too and has never been tried before. It will allow a car owner to earn some extra cash and save a renter the trouble of dealing with a rental car company. The question is whether car owners will be willing to rent out their car to a total stranger. The experience with Airbnb, where people hand over their entire house to a stranger, suggests they will.

Open API

Lynk & Go will launch an open application programming interface (API), which means third-party developers can develop apps for the Lynk & Co cars, just like outside developers can create apps for the iPhone. Owners of a Lynk & Co will be able to download these apps in their car via a special app store.

Lynk & Co brings the smartphone ecosystem to the car. The possibilities are endless, ranging from other car-sharing schemes to games to productivity apps. Lynk & Co will likely not allow apps that will control vital functions like the motor management, although they haven’t specifically ruled it out…

Conclusion: Some ideas are new and some are not so new, but combining all these ideas into one package has never been tried before, and one could call it challenging indeed. Challenging for other automakers to react to, and challenging for Lynk & Co to pull it off.

A bit toad face, and the proportion looks a little squished up, maybe need longer wheelbase.

But still, not a bad effort something totally new.
