Wait next week Apple launch new macbook pro.

I used mine for 1 and half year, never format before.

Heavy user: lots of Photoshop, illustrator and some video editing.

Mac OS is far more stable than windows..

Reformat might or might not solve your issue. You need to know what causing the performance issue it in the first place.

Very often cases we see are user/ owner updated their MacOS where their hardware bottlenecking performances.

Good point.

Sometimes it is just hardware bottleneck, sometimes it is just issues a simple plain reinstallation.

Main point is, reinstalling the entire thing is only going to get as good as it was when it initially came out of the box. Which might not be the case since there are several OSes launched in between now and then.

It is one of the ways if you don't mind paying. Don't think they do backups for you.

Else, you can also try DIY route. If you already have time machine backup. Things are much easier. Else, it is not that hard as well.

But, if you have issues that is due to corrupted app preferences, it might actually clone those problems back into a newly reinstalled machine wasting your effort.

The biggest question is, do you have the "softwares" that you need to use after doing the re-installation.
