Raxco Software, the leader in disk defragmentation, now provides the power of enterprise defragmentation for desktop and laptop users with PerfectDisk. PerfectDisk's easy to use interface and powerful defrag engine were designed for users who do not require the capabilities of network defragmentation and advanced features for the enterprise.PerfectDisk is a software that helps you to defrag disks. If you want to optimize your computer to run faster and perform better so you can do more – whether work or surfing the Web – and don't run in a networked environment like many companies, then PerfectDisk is for you. PerfectDisk(R) 8 Version delivers speed, thoroughness, and ease-of-use for all Windows(R) home, small business, and large enterprise users.

Changes in PerfectDisk version 8.00.50:
PerfectDisk Client:
- PerfectDisk is now Certified for Windows Vista. Minor changes were made to meet the certification requirements.
- We changed when the last schedule run time is updated to prevent some scheduler conflicts when two or more schedules were set to run at the same time.
- Fixed a boot-time defrag limitation when external attributes were too large.
- Fixed a bug in the post defrag statistics. The elpased time and CPU time did not support values greater than 24 hours. This has been fixed.

updated to build 54

What's new in PerfectDisk build 8.00.54

* PerfectDisk Command Center
1. Build 50 introduced some bugs with GUI resizing and positioning. These have been resolved.
2. We have modified the Command Center database to perform faster when using SQL Server or the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE). These performance improvements are automatic for new installations of the Command Center using SQL Server/MSDE. Existing Command Center installations will require modification of the database. To modify an existing SQL Server based database, please see knowledge base article 598.
3. Enhancement: Changes were made to display the computer information row by row instead of waiting for all rows before displaying any information.
4. Fixed numerous issues with the Managed Computer Dialog. Renaming, and moving groups caused the UI to exit.
* PerfectDisk Client
1. Build 50 introduced some bugs with GUI resizing and positioning. These have been resolved.
2. When defragmenting sparse files, PerfectDisk did not do a perfect job. This has been corrected.
3. A bug effecting PDAgent on 64-bit platforms has been corrected. The bug preventing PDAgent from starting.
4. The statistics display was modified to only display 100 files in the Excluded Files tab. Previously PerfectDisk displayed them all and this could cause significant delays. In some cases it took up to an hour to display 25,000 excluded files.

What's new in PerfectDisk build 8.00.58

* PerfectDisk Command Center

1. Corrected column sorting issues in the Console machine view and Reports.

* PerfectDisk Client

1. We added code to store the column widths on the Exchange Tab.
2. Corrected the boot file management options for Vista. Originally we only allowed PerfectDisk Manage and Disable
3. Corrected a bug when displaying statistics. The bug caused the statistics to be listed twice when displayed.
4. Corrected a schedule bug which was preventing online defrag schedules from starting when they were preceeded by an offline schedule.
5. Worked around a hardware driver issue on XP, Win2000 and Windows Server 2003 which effected boot-time defrag. In Srv03 & Vista a new storage control, IOCTL_DISK_COPY_DATA, was added that defrag operations should attempt to use when moving file data to accomplish two results:

o reduce the problem of VolSnap.sys shapshots being prematurely purged and
o increase performance where the underlying hardware may be able to "move" file data by just shuffling pointers.

If this new control fails, data is moved the normal brute force way (i.e. read it from here and write it to there). We have discovered that some hardware reported success when indeed they failed to correctly redirect the pointers. This issue can cause data loss.

Changes in PerfectDisk 8.00.63:
• PerfectDisk Command Center
1. If you ran the Fragmentation report, the Alert report and the Fragmentation report again, some columns disappeared. This has been fixed.
2. When Saving or Printing the Alert report, an extra column was added. This is was a hidden column used for initial sorting. This has been fixed.
3. In the Managed Computers dialog, Vista machines were not displayed. This has been fixed.
4. When using the Configure Client Settings Wizard, you could set the Proxy settings associated with the AutoUpdate settings, however you could not clear them. This has been fixed.
5. On the Machine View tab, the Next Scheduled Run date was not always populated. This can occur if you have a one time schedule which has already been executed. This has been fixed.
• PerfectDisk Client
1. When performing a boot-time defrag pass on Vista with the pagefile on a non-system drive, you received an Access Denied message. This was due to the IO manager opening and closing a handle to the pagefile. NTFS does not monitor for closing of the pagefile. We have worked around this issue.
2. When performing a boot-time defrag pass on a volume which was shrunken using the Drive Manager on Vista, PerfectDisk failed with a buffer overflow error. This was because when the drive was shrunken, the $Bitmap file was not reduced to match the drive size. We have worked around this issue.
3. Single file defrag was not supported on unmounted drives. This has been fixed.
4. There was a display issue when manually defragmenting an Exchange data store. This has been corrected.
5. When un-installing PerfectDisk you sometimes received the following error in the event log:
"SELECT * FROM PDEvent" whose target class "PDEvent" does not exist".
This has been fixed.
6. When using Find File the color displayed for the selected file sometimes changed. There was a bug which caused this if the first block being displayed contained files of different categories. This has been fixed.
7. Changes were made to the Screen Saver schedule to stop quicker on Win2000 and XP, and to run on Vista.
8. Localization support was added for German and Japanese.
9. Unmovable files were sometimes listed twice in the statistics. This has been fixed.
10. The UI could sometimes exit on a race condition when defragmenting multiple Exchange data stores. This only affected the display and not the actual defrag pass. This has been corrected.
11. If a boot-time defrag pass was set for next reboot, and an online defrag pass was executed on the same drive, the offline pass was cancelled. This has been fixed.
12. Fixed a display issue with PerfectDisk logs. If your time zone was GMT+ then log display was incorrect and delayed. You would observe the log file as being empty until some period of time passed and them the logs would populate. This has been fixed.
13. Additional code was added to allow PerfectDisk for Exchange to log more information to the application event log.

Changes in PerfectDisk 8.00.64:
PerfectDisk Command Center
1. When viewing the History dialog, the text display was sometimes poorly formatted. This has been fixed.
2. Console incorrectly displayed the Last Run Date for a computer added to an existing schedule. This has been fixed.
3. Code was added to support adding computers to a group using the fully qualified domain name (ComputerName.Domain.com).

PerfectDisk Client
1. Code was added to exclude certain SafeBoot encryption files. Moving these files could cause your computer to become non-bootable.
2. If your drive was very large PerfectDisk displayed some of the statistics using scientific notation. This has been fixed.

What's new in PerfectDisk build 8.00.67

* PerfectDisk Client
1. Build 66 inadvertently checked the floppy drive file system even though this drive would never be defragmented. This has been fixed.

What's new in PerfectDisk build 8.00.66

* PerfectDisk Command Center
1. Setting License Key Wizard in non-wizard mode (Tab Mode) did not work correctly. This has been fixed.
2. We corrected a bug in thread pool on console which could have caused the Console to crash in high activity conditions.
* PerfectDisk Client
1. When Bitlocker was enabled, boot time defrag passes would abort since bitlocker prevented updating certain files. PerfectDisk has worked around this issue.
2. We corrected a bug in memory allocation when performing boot-time defrag passes on X64 processors.
3. We changed the boot-time defrag Verify stage to allow the bad cluster file to point to cluster which do not reside on the disk. This can occur if the volume was resized after bad clusters where identified.
4. PerfectDisk will no longer display drives which cannot be defragmented. We will only display fixed drives formatted NTFS, FAT, or FAT32.
5. We corrected a bug in the file exclusion enumeration. In earlier versions we would have attempted to move files in the System Volume Information folder even though they were excluded. This was do to the fact that these files did not allow the LocalSystem account to open them so the name could be converted to a File ID. This bug has been corrected.
