QUOTE(C-Note @ May 6 2018, 03:23 PM) Certainly 17-55 (or 24-70) is the most-used focal ranges. If I can only bring one lens it will definitely be this one Shooting at night or under dimmed conditions may be a bit more challenging but so long as you know how to make good use of the light available or a flash it should be all fine |

Going to asian countries with a lil bit of everything e.g. landscape, cityscape, nightscape etc and only plan to bring one lens. Heard good reviews about 17-50mm OR 18-140mm 18-140mm is an awesome kitlens and it is super versatile but sadly it is still a kitlens. It's good for amateur that does not care much about sharpness and the depth of view of the image. 17-50 on that other hand is a standard lens that I personally think is good enough for travel unless you plan to do some birding on your travel. It performs slightly better at night with the slightly narrower aperture of F2.8. The image is sharper with some shallow depth of view at 50mm F2.8 (equivalent to about 75mm F2.8 in FX) |

But im guessing the 18-140 be bigger than 17-50, so should take that into account. |

finding a decent copy of a 17-50 is the question
17-55 for me is just too heavy. anyway, for night shots... kit lens (18-140mm) at its widest is f/3.5...2/3 extra stop...but with most DSLRs now having quite decent high iso IQ...why not? plus the 18-140mm has VR which coupled with only losing 2/3 stop would come in handy for night shots...and could help u gain back that 2/3 stop. but the 18-140mm at 50mm is at f/4.8...so better just buy a 50mm f/1.8 This post has been edited by Everdying: May 12 2018, 11:04 AM |

QUOTE(C-Note @ May 15 2018, 07:40 PM) Thanks everyone for the information! Will give it serious consideration. Any other recommendations? Budget less than RM1,500 Look into a prime lens if you want better photos at night or blurry background shots. Some of my friends shoot with prime lens all day long. And even bring one prime lens to travel. For a crop sensor camera (DX), 35mm prime is also good for travel. 50mm is a little too long imho. Get a 35mm F1.8. It would be another good alternative to a 17-50mm F2.8. But you have to adjust your angle and position more often lo. Since it is not so versatile as in some packed areas. |

i actually dont mind the size n weight of the 1755 when travel.. for the fast focus speed and image results. AND when others see you got big glass they tend to give me way.
