experience is the best teacher so go out and take as much photos as you can.

35mm 1.8g is known to have AF failure after a few years.
search on the net for DIY repair if you have experience taking apart a lens.
has to to with stuck motor or something i forgot already.

that lens is sharp and i favor the 35mm over the 50mm any day.
