Even though with pure vanilla android, not all games are really optimized for it. We can't really get the good game experience if compare with iOS.
*
u r absolutely correct, not only games, mostly all of the application.
Apple products is expensive but all the money we paid are worthy for the software they created.
now android manufacturer keep on pushing hard on the hardware, but in mobile technology world, software and hardware both are playing a important role and software is something very expensive, not only money but also the intellectual

They are some youtube video that perform the real world test between the speed of iphone and Android..
*
performance yes, iOS is fast, but what i want to highlight is the integration of all the applications with iOS are very well, no matter the stock apps or the third party apps we downloaded from apple store. the quality control for apple store on every single app is very good.

what would be the best way to make the hissing noise apparent? recording video?
*
run an apps (video recording, HD games. rebooting the phone), place the back of the phone to your ear.
if there r hissing sound, you can hear it from the apple logo there.

good luck to you bro.... the hissing sound doesn't bother me much but if they could give us a replacement unit. I will be glad to get an exchange
*
at first i also have the same thought as u, but after few days i plan to report because in future i might need to capture video recording in a very quiet room, so if this issue never been solve, i will not able to capture a video in a quiet mode. so i decided to contact apple by today.
