Maxis came out with iphone Zerolution plan today but need to pay advance payment of RM4500. I thought zerolution means for 0 upfront payment lol

I checked with Maxis. My Zerolution end next month but I am eligible to re-contract this month. No penalty. You only get penalty if you cancel early and not renewing the contract.

Yeah for phones on Zerolution or EasyPhone (Celcom) installment plans, the phones are tied to the telco until the end of contract - in another term, locked. Buyers are wary of purchasing phones from telcos - you can't use another telco's SIM if it's still running on contract unless the termination fee or whatever contract that binds is released or waived.

This is only applicable for installment plan phones - if buy outright should be no problem.
