use EDL recovery. It should be able to restore bricked phone.

Yes. i did fastboot flash recovery name.img
but i cant get into recovery mode.
Power p + power or updater reboot to recovery.
I get the screen below.

you should press volume(-) + power for fastboot.

volume(-) + power = fastboot (picture of bunny wearing green with fastboot word)
volume(+) + power = recovery (or TWRP if you flashed already)

once you unlock the bootloader, there are no reason to use EDL except if your phone is bricked. You can use FASTBOOT or even upload the ROM to your download folder and update from the phone.

As for OTA, it will work fine. At least mine can OTA without issue.

i am exploring into protecting the phone against theft.

Is it possible to protect xiaomi phones to make it like iphone where they cannot use the phone without proper unlocking method?

From what I see now, the thief can easily just flash the phone with mi flash and can use already.

Hi guys. I bought xiaomi note 3 via lazada last week (sold and fullfil by lazada) and the box says Thorus set. However..when i want to buy tempered glass..it doesnt fully fit the screen. Then i compare to my friend's note 3 (bought from xiaomi malaysia), mine seems to be a bit bigger. Any idea?
*
if I were you, I would ask for refund from lazada. Cause hard to get proper SP and case for kate. Plus, Kate is not official Malaysia version. So you can put the reason to ask for refund is item is not as advertised.

But if you don't mind, then can continue to use as it is still a xiaomi phone.

Flashing via EDL would clean off all data?

Wonder if it is possible to backward to replace the mdb file first?
*
yes..all data will be gone. EDL is like Odin flash for samsung phones.

Anyway, there should be backup in mi cloud. You did activate that and have data backup right?

Else there are also google backup if you are using global rom. But the backup in google is not as conclusive as mi cloud. Still, if you setup properly, there should be back for contacts and photos.

any beta testers for the MM rom for redmi note 3 here? when are they releasing MM or are they going straight to Nougat? At this point, I think they might as well go to N straight.

i am not sure if I should upgrade my firmware from global 8050 to 8060.

Cause I have rooted my phone and I tried to run full unroot. It did not run finish. It sort of hang at running the unroot process for the whole night. In the morning still showing the unroot screen. So I force reboot and luckily everything is working fine.

What is other method to unroot phone? or to update the firmware?

Also, if I flash the full 1.2gb rom, will it erase everything in the phone?

Before doing anything, check which recovery the RN3P has right now... if it's stock recovery, OTA won't bootloop after un-root. If, TWRP/China recovery, better don't update yet. Ensure to backup and flash Global ROM again via (Fastboot + MiFlash + Clean_All). That's why it's important to keep stock recovery if we were to stick with Stock Global ROM.

Full Unroot via SuperSu is supposed to be less than 10 seconds. And Yes, you have to reboot before can OTA.

If worried too much, better backup first.

Then. OTA the 1.2GB. All data intact.
*
it is still mi's default stock recovery. I did not flash TWRP on the phone.

So how to unroot now since supersu cannot unroot it properly?

i have manage to upgrade the firmware. I tried full unroot again and this time it works. After that I run the 1.2g rom upgrade and it completed without issue.

Thanks bro for all the advice!!

Just wondering is this device can support gaming? Cause I want to buy 1 for my father to replace his old iPhone 4s
*
rn3 is good performance phone for it's price. I would rank it highest performance phone on the mid-range SoC segment.

I don't think it has an problem playing candy crush. Even iphone 4s that is like 5-6 years old should have no problem running candy crush. You probably need to remove all the junks like facebook, messenger and other chat software that always stay in the background.

Yes, I have considered Malaysia set too. But, since Xiaomi Service Centre is NOT AVAILABLE in the my home state and the nearest one is hundreds KM away in the neighbour state, myinnerself think why do I need to pay more for official Xiaomi warranty if to claim it will be a hassle (not to mention the need to wait for days to weeks from distance place though)? I may option to go to third party repair shops  ...
*
i bought mine from lazada and the vendor is legend. I have send my phone to them once cause I bricked my firmware. They manage to fix it which I am grateful enough. The phone also came with global stable rom. So I am happy with this vendor. Then again, these vendors sometimes are hit and miss. One person might get great experience and another might get bad experience.

looks like they are clearing stock for 2gb/16gb version. Most people go for 3gb/32gb version.

hello guys,i just bought a redmi note 3 from Lazada under Mi Malaysia.my question is, is it using global rom?so I no need to flash any rom right?
what about the playstore?already installed or I need to manually install it?
*
if can see the playstore icon means it's already installed, right? If don't see means it is not installed, right?

Global rom default comes with playstore. If yours don't have means it is china rom. If have, maybe it's global or maybe it's china rom. Cause seller can install for you. Look for an icon called "updater". Once you open the updater apps, it will show you what version of rom you are using.
