Just Unlock Bootloader OFFICIALLY and everything is fine after that... focus on this task first....refer to 1st page of this thread....

Keyword of the day : "China Dev ROM"

My summary steps:

1) Flash China Dev ROM via fastboot using MiFlash.
2) Unlock bootloader.
3) Flash back to Global Stable ROM via fastboot too using MiFlash.
4) Prefer to temporarily sideload TWRP so that maintain stock recovery from Step 3 above. In TWRP, flash SuperSU.
5) Now device is rooted with stock recovery intact.
6) To OTA, FULL UNROOT in SuperSU > Reboot device.
7) Run Xiaomi Updater app to OTA the full image ZIP file (>1.0GB usually). You can't OTA using incremental ZIP file.
8) Once OTA finished, repeat Step 4 to re-root.

Pay attention to image below whenever using MiFlash:


Oh yeah...one more thing... the above is valid for Snapdragon (i.e. KENZO and not KATE variant) and not for MTK SoC....

You can go for other TWRP and SuperSU.... but I prefer Xiaomi EU for "reliability"...

So long as you don't have the "mystery" KATE variant, you are good to go...

Many IMPORTED RN3Pro nowadays are KATE variant... I dunno why the Importer(s) ditched Kenzo... silly mistake on their end....So, solid choice now is to get the Malaysia Set even though it is "over-priced"...

Try below:
- just flash china dev rom. (not sure if global dev got same settings)
- login same Mi ID
- turn on developer options by tapping multiple times on miui version
- additional settings - developer options - scroll until you see mi unlock status, tap it and add to authorize unlock status (or whatever the button)..then you'll see success or done status.
- Now boot into fastboot, and your phone should be unlocked successfully now.

Correct. In fastboot, use MiFlash to flash Global ROM but ensure "Clean_All" option is selected. This is also known as EDL but it wont lock bootloader.

My guess u did NOT select "KEEP READ ONLY" when u see TWRP 1st page. Ensure to select "KEEP READ ONLY" so that Stock Recovery is untouched.

I never bother to login to Mi Account anymore AFTER successfully unlocked bootloader...

One Mi account can unlock many xiaomi devices. I have 2 Mi Accounts. If one is occupied/waiting for approval, I use the other to do unlock bootloader once SMS received. But cannot interchange devices between these 2 accounts.

I have updated my post. You are correct to get the idea of EDL will re-lock bootloader. Always use MiFlash (with Clean_All mode) so that bootloader remains unlocked. In MiFlash, there is also "Clean_All and Lock" mode. This is also known as EDL... the EDL that everyone is talking about.

Conclusions:
MiFlash + Clean_All = Bootloader remains unlocked (fastboot)
MiFlash + Clean_All and Lock = EDL (but in fastboot)
MiFlash + Save User Data = sort of OTA update (offline via fastboot)



So, as long as ur device can boot up to fastboot recovery, it's cureable from softbricked/bootloop.

Just a short reminder, those who have bought IMPORTED set(s), please ensure the Snapdragon variant is not for KATE/Special Edition. You can know easily by booting up the phone and check the Android version. If Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, it is confirmed KATE/Special Edition variant.

From the box....? I dunno... anyone with KATE box please upload for evaluation. Kindly hide the serial number, IMEIs and other sensitive infos on the box....

If this is legit, might as well buy new device.

Therefore, if we were to use this device in a long run, better invest on truly protective casing and high quality screen protector. With these two accessories (which should cost less than RM75), the device is durable enough for long term abuse...
