if i choose for edl (the only option) to update to latest 8.0.5.0, will it clear all my phone data and app??

once you unlock the bootloader, there are no reason to use EDL except if your phone is bricked. You can use FASTBOOT or even upload the ROM to your download folder and update from the phone.
As for OTA, it will work fine. At least mine can OTA without issue. |

if i use fastboot to flash, wouldn't it relock the bootloader again since it will replace with original .mbn file ? |

I bought it and now ilm waiting for refund. I could claim my refund as they didn't mention it as Asian spec model aka special Kane model which is 2mm longer in height which means this phone is bigger! Stay away from it. |

thanks guys, finally managed to flash successfully.
i used the modified twrp and flash using latest recovery file .. i believe with this twrp, future flash no need to delete the mbn file ... ref http://en.miui.com/thread-283146-1-1.html |
