"A Final Fantasy TCG?? Sounds like another Square Enix quick gil-grab!"

I wouldn't be surprised if this was your initial thought upon reading the title; quite reasonably so considering SE's merchandising habits of milking the FF brand and not hearing about this TCG before. So here's a little background:

Released by Square Enix and Hobby Japan on February 2011 , FFTCG is a TCG whereby players build decks and battle each other with cards featuring characters from the Final Fantasy series. FFTCG remained exclusive to the Japanese for almost 6 years, during which its has received 15 expansions and sold over 3.5 million boosters packs with over 2000 different card designs. Apparently Japan also hosted national tournaments every year. But no longer, as Square Enix will finally release the TCG in US and Europe on October 28th this year. The initial release set called Opus I will feature 216 cards, accompanied by 3 different entry decks themed around Final Fantasy VII, X and XIII.

The gameplay itself has been described as fast and versatile and has been compared with Magic the gathering for a similar resource system, though this is likely due to the background of the creator, Taro Kageyama, who was a former TCG champion. The following video is a short beginner tutorial about the game itself.

So why'd I make this post again? To spread awareness about the game (for some reason close to no one even knows about it) and gauge interest for this TCG among Malaysians. Perhaps if card shops see there's sufficient demand for this game they will pick it up. Oh and because I REALLY WANNA PLAY THIS GAME icon_question.gif

Hey there. I've asked around some shops in Klang Valley but none are certain yet since there isn't a lot of talk about it locally. Arguably not a lot even know about it, thus my opening post. Some do express interest in carrying it if there's sufficient demand.

Perhaps you could ask around shops in your area? That'll show em potential interest smile.gif

Was interested at first place but not anymore after heard from my friend that Japan itself also has no market for this game. It is only specify for their own fans. I rather play gundam and pokemon tcg that has competition across the globe.

Can you elaborate further? As far as I know Japan held nationals every year since its release until last March. In which it received an overhaul (rerelease and rebalancing) to coincide with the international release. I hate to be obvious but FFTCG just got released globally, so it can't have any global tourneys before.

He only said to me that Japan TCG that are popular in the end is still MTG. All others like FF and FE and the one that I wanted to play Gundam TCG actually are not popular. Even Pokemon only popular in certain region in Japan. Since it just come out internatinally, I am not sure if I wanted to play FF as I believe is going to be quite expensive for US region seeing our RM is getting more and more depreciate.

No offence but you may go ahead of trying out this FF TCG. I love the art though. I am already broke with Pokemon TCG and going to learn the new Gundam. So not gonna spend much on others atm

No offense taken. No one is obligated to play this game. In the end we just wanna have fun (and keeping our wallets healthy) biggrin.gif

For pricing I would expect it to be similar to other TCGs (RM60 per deck, RM10~13per pack), assuming it does hit our land some day.

And I cannot say for certain that this TCG will be very popular (no one can for such a recent release), but I have seen some gameplay of it and thought it's enjoyable, and so made the OP to inform people about it.

im seriously doubt it will become popular here, hence any1 will be playing it at all, hence will it be worth my money sad.gif
even other card games (maybe except mtg) are like ''want-die-no-die'' here lol

dont get me wrong, i grow interest in tcg and finding some thing worth it, & have research some of them

most popular tcg here r mtg > yugioh (declining) > vanguard > fow > weiss/wixoss/etc , sadly i found out that most of the tourny r always just the same few people playing/winning... like for yugioh is thr even 100 people playing for whole malaysia lol doh.gif

Oh MTG here are still alive and kicking hard, in fact there are some shop that only opens specifically for MTG. Others are still going on as well but just like you mentioned it was mostly the regulars that is still playing along. As long as the TCG are having some tournament regularly then it will still be alive and kicking.

Hi I heard Classroom Cafe has boosters for sale. They recently did a demo last Saturday and there was a growing crowd (about 8 players). From what I know they will be doing weekly tournaments on Saturdays. Do check them out if you still have interest. Their address is: 47B, Jalan SS21/37, Damansara Utama, 47400 PJ (Damansara uptown). They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. I think they do have a Facebook group as a well as a page.
