You're right..

Experienced this situation before @ Pizza Hut.. 3 times swipe no success.
Then received SMS for all 3 transactions.
Straight call customer service.
He ask me to talk with the cashier either ask for refund or check the transaction report.
Checked the transaction report was none. then not charge.
