Bought a new lenovo ideapad 100 with i3 5005U 2ghz and 2gb ram, windows 10 and intel hd graphic.

cos my main usage is just surfing net and youtube, thought it should be working at least smooth, however it just seems bit lagging whenever i used it. used to have a pentium, but did not feel this lag.

is this normal? i3 cant even smoothly surf net?

now i am thinking of upgrading to 4gb ram... bit regret might as well get an i5 confused.gif

If you bought this because its cheap, yes you should. But you should get the 4GB version and add another 4GB to make it 8GB. It would be way smoother.

I personally feel that those manufacturer laptops have way many junk that somehow slows down the performance. I would usually format them and start fresh without all those junkware.

Core i7 for laptop is really waste of money. Go for Core i5 and dump a lot of ram inside it. Bloat wares are easily removed.

sometime it is due to bloatware, u use what internet browser? dont use chrome bcause it is cpu and memory hogger, try firefox.

btw, i am using a skylake i3 ulv cpu, so far for normal surfing and daily usage, it is working fine without any major slowdown.

It is very strange since 5 years ago most regular Core i7 notebooks (not gaming or ultrabook) is NOT faster at startup or program loading compared to Core i5 or core i3. In some cases those new N30xx series processors seems to be faster at normal task than Core i7. Till now also still same thing. Only those Ultrabooks seems to make Core i7 seem much faster. But then again most of them has SSD. I have personally added a few Core i3 and Core i5 notebooks with 4-8GB ram and the speed increase is much more better at every department. Even so very likely those bloatwares are at fault. But having more ram makes those bloatware loaing way more bearable if you want everything to work out of the box. Seriously notebook makers should seriously look into having 8GB as standard. rolleyes.gif

Yes. It is true. If i have not tried Win 7/8 on old 775 dual core machines with 8GB ram, i would still be blaming tech advancement, hdd speed, system age if i did not try 8GB (2 x 4). On first gen Core i3 with 1033mhz ram, its the same thing. 2GB, 4GB just doesn't cut it with Windows 7. Standard should be 8GB.

4GB is just ok. Everytime anyone buys notebook should aim for processors above 2.0ghz & 8GB ram. Really works to everyones expectations out of the box.

Correct - bloatware is a huge problem on budget machines. Fortunately there's always a clean install. icon_idea.gif

Also, 2GB is very tight for Windows since websites these days are pretty resource heavy. Consider an upgrade to 4GB/8GB, and swap the slow HDD to a SSD. brows.gif

Even with 8GB RAM and i7-4700MQ, my W10 laptop performs slowly with 100% sys usage for several minutes. Almost 3 years but took good care of it.

This happens even after defragging, scanning for viruses and uninstalled unneeded apps.

The truth is, Core i7 mobile processor sucks. Every brand that i tested suffers the same slow loading problem since 2010. It will only work well when you match an SSD to it. But even then, WTF did you pay so much money for a processor that cannot out boot a Core i3 or Core i5? Your only solution replace the hard disk with an SSD hard disk.
