Hi

Just got this TV to replace my old TV and I have some questions about the TV and want to ask anyone who is using this TV.

1. Is there a way to enable the blue screen background if there is no signal ? Currently the TV just show static if there is no signal and the snow noise is very irritating. (my old Toshiba will turn to blue screen if there is no signal.

2. When changing channel - is there a way to make it input only 1 channel number ? Say when pressing 1 for channel 1 (I will need to wait a few seconds before I input the second number [ will show 1_ ], if i press too fast say I want to change from channel 1 then to channel 2 - I get channel 12 instead. (Hope you understand what I mean)

Notice also that when using xbox (normal composite cable), the the far right picture is over scan a bit. The logo for evolution (oval shape) is cut off on the right side but left side is OK.

I am still waiting for my PS2 component cable to arrive before testing HD (1080i) smile.gif

Thanks in advance.

I'm on KV-HR, not sure whether it's even similar.

For the static screen, it should appear automatically, if it doesn't, it should be in the menu somewhere.

As for getting component cable for the ps2, I suggest you to get component for the xbox instead.... it's more obvious on the xbox. PS2 running 1080i? I think the only game that runs 1080 is GT4. Also remember that 1080 will appear really really small on a 29' TV.

Planning to get the component for Xbox but it is quite rare nowadays. Anyone want to let go of theirs ?

As for the blue screen, I check the manual and played with the menu but could not find it.

may i know how does 480p compare to 1080i on a CRT HDTV like this sony? why issit very small? u mean resolution-wise the image is squashed? currently gaming in 480i on old TV, some fonts/HUD on 360 games really hard to see. is 1080i on CRT worth it? is the image too sharp and uncomfortable for the eyes?

I'm using a Philips CRT, and my 360 is running on 1080i. On 29" screen there's a little bit of overscan on the left and right but otherwise the graphics are beautiful. Sure there's widescreen bars on top but it's never been a problem with me.

In fact I've been so used to the contrast ratio of CRTs that on LCD TVs the images tend to look washed out to me, even though it's all fullscreen.

i'm actually pretty happy with my old tv. 480i - component - widemode, i just increase the saturation and brightness lvl up for ps2/360 games and sit a comfortable distance away. now only problem is squinting for certain 360 games (damn graw & DR vmad.gif )

so will 720/1080i mode on philips/sony make those small fonts/HUD on 360 games more clear/readable? will such TV makes most of my low-res ps2 games more ugly?

Hmm Haven't use this model of TV before but usually TVs are generally almost the same tongue.gif So hope this helps.

1. Some TVs don't have the blue screen thing. If the noise is too irritating why not turn the volume down a little? smile.gif Or Mute it.

2. As for the channel switching thing. There should be a button on the remote that changes from single digit (usually signify by "_") or double digit ("_ _"). I guess the button is usually a symbol "_ / _ _"

No blue screen on new TV !!!! This feature has been in my Toshiba (pre Bomba series) around 1995+-.

As for the '_/_ _' button on my remote, my old toshiba has it but this new sony controller don't have this button.

Maybe they took out this function as not too many people are using it to cut cost doh.gif (or maybe I am too used to my old tv) biggrin.gif

No comment on user's problem....i never watch terrestial TV...coz my Antenna drop off from the roof and been halfway sticking there for years....LOL.

As for the "small picture" issue in 4:3 TV, it simply means this. All HDTV mode are in widescreen, thus you get black borders on top and bottom when running game in 720p/1080i/1080p/whatever (except 480p, which is EDTV, not HDTV), when running in traditional 4:3 box like the SONY CRT TV there.

I watch my ASTRO in HDTV mode now (720p). Some are affected by the stretched ratio, but other programmes are actually better (some anime series, Solty Rei, ex, are actually in 16:9 original and stretched to 4:3, so when i watch it in 16:9, it got "corrected". ). TVB series will suck coz they're 4:3 stretched to 16:9.

One thing though, i notice watching via my HTPC , the picture is much sharper and clearer...maybe due to upscaling to 720p?? hmm...

Neway, sorry for being offtopic a bit...
