question very simple. who will pay the fees to apple?
Besides, using applepay dont mean better. I just get to know applepay use on hsbc dont entitle for 5x or 8x point. It will consider as 1x point.

thats why i said consumer paid the indirect apple tax.
I use apple pay is because it is convenient when use watch to tap and pay, otherwise, wont use it at all.

ApplePay on Apple Watch is the main reason to get it for me. No fumbling with wallet and physical cards and also no need to leak card number info.

Same. Banks of my existing credit cards(s) opt for Google Pay only. Two years ago I had to apply a basic credit card from other bank who offers Apple Pay.

So damn convenient for shop/kiosk purchasing. Travelled a lot to SG lately and I just tap the phone for MRT rides.

Exactly... they don't know the convenience of having Apple Pay without the need to fiddle with their wallet for the card.

Which HSBC card you are using?

Platinum gets 8x points for contactless, but not Signature though.

Or you were saying no points at all for HSBC card?

hsbc signature. had a huge argument with support when i found out.

go to retail shop, pay with hsbc cc using applepay

When statement date come, only get 1x point. [ quite easy to calc as few transaction, suppose to get 5k point, yet i get 1k instead). Retail spend = RM1k

According to cs,
1. Shop retail - yes. passed to get 5x point . however due to i pay using apple pay
2. Apple pay - 1x point

So i stop using applepay on retail for hsbc since only 1x. Technology is good but hsbc only give 1x point rather than 5x which prevent me from using it.

May be my card is low end hsbc signature . It is a marketing trick that i fall into. lucky only 1 transaction belore too late

Damn that is a crazy point reduction, from 5 points per ringgit if you use your physical card to only 1 point per ringgit if you use Apple Pay. Which HSBC credit card are you using though, because I checked HSBC's Apple Pay FAQ and it says this:

15. Do I earn reward points / cashback for Apple Pay transactions?
Apple Pay transactions are treated the same as the normal credit card transactions.

Unless you are using a specific credit card that nerfs the points when using Apple Pay, you should be getting the same amount of points regardless of payment method.

HSBC Visa Signature.

CS replied like this
Its based on Visa signature reward points terms and conditions since Apple pay method is considered as Paywave and not online purchases. You may view the details at this link: mobile-wallets-terms-and-conditions.pdf

https://www.hsbc.com.my/content/dam/hsbc/my...-conditions.pdf

and

https://www.hsbc.com.my/content/dam/hsbc/my...-conditions.pdf

Continue to argue as it is retail. CS Checked retail - Code correct but still lost due to payment is ApplePay. So pissed off till i gave the survey bad rating!

That why i 'm so surprised that point awarded based on use physical card to swipe & applepay method when at retail shop.

shame, that is the same card i wanted to get and use apple pay with but if points awarded will be manipulated like this, no point getting this card anymore.

oh well

btw i went through the tnc you linked and there was no mention on anything about contactless payment or apple pay, so technically you should be entitled to the 5x points if the merchant code is correct.

maybe you can try to escalate the issue again and see if a separate agent can give a better answer

Yeah I went through the documents as well, unless you spend at a specific merchant with the MCC code that does not add on the base x1 points, you should be receiving your additional points as to my understanding of the documents, as they do not distinguish between physical card and "mobile card" as they put it.

well i did escalate and complained. However do i need to always check statement & argue with cs? They already mark apple pay as 1x point even confirmed retail shop is verified to get 5x. Those using VS card, you may want to double confirm if u really get 5x point on shopping at retail.

How many people are so free to check statement on point awarded? It wont be easy when got so many transaction unless it is big purchase & which transaction is using paywave, pin or applepay. Besides, i dont think it is CS problem. It is HSBC system. The system will auto calculate the point and award to user on statement date. Mean it is confirm applepay mark as 1x since availability for applepay from HSBC already few years, just that some people dont realise and bother to calc the point

i dont mind to share which shop that i did the transaction. It is Apple Switch retail. It is common to use applepay at apple shop. I want to see if really get 5x point on retail shop on that day.
