any new leaks on which new banks/FI will support Apple Pay?
pretty disappointing when the only addition after launch was only Amex and HSBC, and only CIMB committed to launching in 2H23 |

QUOTE(kh_pua @ Jun 29 2023, 03:52 PM) Following SUICA & PASMO, 3rd Japanese Transit card ICOCA now supported by AP starting June 27th. Maybe around September/October I guess. I would say the progress on KTMs are doing well so far, was able to see technicians working on the new gate machines from time to time, and also more than half of them are already assembled & being turned on for now. So probably they’re just left with the software optimisation works for now. And not to mention the POS terminal I spotted are also exactly the same as the one at NPE tolls, so this probably indicates that procurement are synced between LLM and MOT.![]() As for RapidKL I don’t have any clue but based on previous interviews from their management, it seems that they do not need any hardware upgrade as their existing terminals are capable of natively support open payment system. At least I’m happy to see they all are doing the work so good so far. |

However, you can get a digital version directly from Apple Wallet by paying for it with Apple Pay (tho some reports mentioned previously that Visa may not work for Suica purchases & reloads) |

I don’t think they’d even do that since the same thing could have been achieved by implementing open payment system. And I’m by no means any sort of “insider”, I’m just telling whatever I witnessed so far.EDIT: Why so? Cuz it’s simply not worth to pour in the time and effort to develop (and yet have to let Apple have some take I guess) the virtualised TnG card which again only limited to just iOS users. Ngl you can still expect a slim possibility of seeing TnG visa adding support for AP, but definitely not the old TnG (welp just my guessing, again). And I’m by no means any sort of “insider”, I’m just telling whatever I witnessed so far. I doubt TNG will implement a virtual card like Sucia has implemented. I remember going to Singapore and most people would use contactless payments once it has been introduced. People there rarely use EZLink or NETSFlashPay, unless they have no phone (unlikely), want to separate transport spending or want to use concession cards (in which they get a discounted fare compared to regular fares). If Singapore's prepaid card providers are unwilling to support, I highly doubt Malaysia would be any different.EDIT: Why so? Suica & other Japanese transportation cards had this feature quite early on.Phone is so much more convenient to double click, pay with face value (face ID) :D Just tap your phone and go if the transit provider supports Express Transit (ET)! However it may require a separate deal with Apple to offer ET at the transit providers’ card readers. I hope that Malaysia would offer ET from the beginning, tho the chances are slim. It’s just way more convenient. https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT207958 (Locations that supports Express Transit / Express Mode is marked with an *) This post has been edited by liberty0480: Jul 3 2023, 04:17 PM |

QUOTE(kakalaku @ Jul 3 2023, 11:42 AM) Is OCBC bank supporting Apple Pay soon? I am looking forward to the day where UOB and OCBC launch Apple Pay (AP) support since they offered it in SG.Just updated their Malaysian bank app, and noticed that the app supports Apple Wallet features It would significantly increase the reach of AP given the acquisition of Citi Malaysia’s consumer bank arm by UOB. Also would be great if local names like RHB, Hong Leong & Public Bank would jump onto the AP bandwagon as these banks has massive cardholder base as well. However, as compared to that in South Korea, I felt that the demand for / awareness of AP among local users is limited therefore I am not sure if banks are in a rush to even offer this service. In Korea, AP is seen as a key differentiator and the awareness is high. Hyundai Card’s (currently the only bank that offers AP there) new cardholder numbers jumped massively in these few months since AP’s launch there and there are rumours that a few other major bank-related card companies intends to offer Apple Pay. You can find all kinds of positive stats on Hyundai Card AP support if you search around. The awareness is so high to the extent where there were reports of Contactless-compatible card terminal shortages in the beginning as merchants rush to support AP to differentiate themselves from competitors. (In Korea’s case, most existing terminals do not support contactless payments) Nonetheless, we can at least look forward to CIMB’s AP support that is scheduled to come in 2H2023. Hopefully this could help in raising AP awareness as CIMB has a large cardholder base too! https://www.nfcw.com/2023/04/24/383242/appl...ptake-in-korea/ https://www.pickool.net/apple-pay-breaks-re...a-on-first-day/ This post has been edited by liberty0480: Jul 3 2023, 04:52 PM PoisonSoul liked this post
