Hello. Would like to ask anyone is doing stem cell research here? I am currently growing Mesenchymal Stem cells in my lab but the growth rate is incredibly slow after the 3rd passage. I am thinking of changing my cell line and would like to ask the opinion of any researcher currently working on any stem cells to share their opinion on the growth of their stem cell.
Thanks.
I had some experience working on MSC but very subtle.
For early passage, the cells should be growing very fast, with exception the cells were isolated from an aged patient. Literally, MSC growth rate is inverse to patient's age. Likewise, with increase of number of passage. I was working on senescence but I left the team due to incompatibility, but fortunately was able to experience some MSC culturing from umbilical cord to aged patient. MSC from young ones grow really fast, and they do not show any sign of aging despite going around 20 passages. But, for the aged patient the cells take too long to multiply.
Another possibility for slow growth may due to low number of cells during subbing. Cells are different compared to bacteria, they require interactions to multiply, whereas the latter would just multiply.
So please feel free to drop a question if there's any confusion
