Hi sifus,
I am driving a Honda City E Spec with stock rims of 15 x 5.5J and stock tyre of GoodYear GT3 175/65 R15. It has been with me for 1 year.
I am planning to upgrade my tyres and rims. I came across few websites, some upgraded to 17" inches rim with tyre size of 205/45 R17. It is beautiful.

Any honda city driver here upgraded to 17"?
Kindly share your experience on fuel consumption, ride comfort, handling etc.
Your opinion is very much appreciated.

17" is ok....but depends on the weight....if u go with those vip cap ayam brand....then it becomes too heavy....

FC no need to mention, maybe ~10% poorer...
the wider the tire the more rolling resistance... Lesser rolling distance... Grip
the heavier the rim the more torque you need... Acceleration slower... Weight
this 2 means you need to use more petrol...

Ride comfort??? at 45 what would you get...
sure not that comfort since Honda suspension already on hard side, means you get better handling...
lower profile also means you will get better handling...

the last one price... you wanna get RM300/pc tire or RM200/pc...
16"/17" good and reasonable tire about RM300+ and 15" is about RM200+...
please take note, taking wider tire doesn't means you get more GRIP in Dry or Wet...
the grip is depends on the tire grade... so your choice... smile.gif

i recommend you to get good 15" rims and with good 195/55 R15 tires...
maybe you can still have good FC (+3-5%) and also good grip on dry and wet conditions...

if honda city v spec want to change tyre only is 205/50/R16 fit for the stock rim? will it hit the walls inside when cornering?

185/55/R16 (stock) to little choices and i think want to try change to other sizes..looking at 195/55/R16 (1.7% diff) or 205/50/R16 (0.4% diff). 205/50 ones has the lowest difference. if possible i dont want it to be lower profile than stock ones.

First is you can use those size you mention but...
Please remember your stock rim is 5.5jj only, max tire width is 195 only...
Except you want to change your stock rim... remember use only
Actually when a lot of ppl buy car they nv consider that...

To get back the comfort maybe you can try the Continental Premium Comfort 2... Duno whether still available... Use 195/55 R16... it should retain the comfort, although the tire side wall hardness also affects the ride comfort...

So do not scold Toyota for not upgrading the stock Vios or Altis rim...
Bigger rim not equal to better look and cost effective...
Stock Vios 15" RIM max fit is 195 /55 R15... Which stock Altis 17" 215/55 R17... When u go up another rim size u will gain handling but lower profile tires will lose comfort... Then bigger rim also means more weight and widwr tires means more rolling resistance, hence this 2 factor will cause the FC to be come lower....

Upon research abit on honda city thread, they say it is 6jj.. any difference does it make ( i dunno anything bout this actually).

i intend not to change my rims btw..and your sentence seems hanging, like u didnt finish it on the first paragraph..

if its max is 195, what will happen if i use 205? imbalance? or become like donut? saw one v-spec using 205 on its original rims, from first glance seems ok but fatter la.

How about PS3 or the new advan ones? saw many recommend the PS3 and seems it sacrifice a bit on comfort but the grip is good iinm la.

Thanks for your reply earlier bro thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

6jj means can go 205 max... Recommended is 185/195... Search online if you want to know why... 6jj means 6 inches... 5.5jj means 5.5 inches... You use 205 only sometimes u might notice the tire is not enough pressure but actually it is enough...
If the rim is 6jj with 215 width tires means the rim is too narrow for the mounting mechanism of the tire... So it might come out if you put great pressure on it, especially hard braking or corners...

Oh that sentence is use only light weight rims if you wan to maintain the FC...

Ok about tire models...
Michelin PS3 will easily cost 400 and above, grips is nice for both dry and wet, and great composure in spirited drive...
Bridgestone RE003 will be more than 400 comparable with PS3 but itight be more harder... I nv use before but it might be my next tire soon...
You can try Toyo T1R also if you can softer ride... Grip is good and side wall is soft so u can have a more comfy ride...
Conti I would love to try again Premium Contact 2 if available... MC5 or CC5 I would nv use to be frank... Unless come with new car...
Yokohama Advan nv use before but like their C Drive 2 (using now) which is discontinued, duno what reason... But this is good premium tire with good grip... S Drive is similar category with PS3 and RE003 but it is noisy...
Goodyear you can try GSD5 (if not mistaken)... Stop following the trend pf tire cos busy with my work... But I mostly will not consider any model of tire below premium and UHP range...

You must remember, tire with for good handling mist have harder side wall or compound... But that will make it lose comfort and might be noisy also... Tire which is more comfort will have softer compound but tear and wear will be faster than hard compound... You nv get everything... But overall I prefer to use PS3... Have not try RE003 yet, but I'm interested... Now I'm surveying for new tires for my car also... Mostly it will be RE003...

Good luck surveying...

The reason I'm more towards 205 is because the premium tyre choices are vast actually..PS3 and RE003 dont have 195 for R16 iinm (from MY website)..

I thought RE003 is cheaper than PS3 hmm.gif hmm.gif

Thanks for the recommendations and explanations thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif
