Price : RM12.50 (2 piece chicken)

Description : KFC fried chicken of either Hot & Spicy or Original with special cheese onion dipping sauce.

Review : Today we try KFC latest product, that is their popular fried chicken but with cheese & onion sauce. The meal consists of 2 pieces of either original or spicy chicken with coleslaw, whipped potato, soft drink & the special cheese onion sauce. As usual KFC Hot & Spicy chicken batter retains oil like sponge. The original one fares better without much oil retention.

Obviously the sauce is the star here. At first look, its not as orange colored as the one they used for their Cheezy Wedges. The sauce is soft & creamy with good holding texture. It can be poured out of the container on the chicken, or chicken pieces dipped in. The surprise is the taste. Its not what it is supposed to be. You would think of salty cheese at first bite. But no. Its sour. More sour note that is like Sour Cream. Hardly any onion taste at all like most onion based product. In fact all my mind keep telling me is this sauce has gone bad. Gone bad during production process or bad during storage? There is spoiled food taste notes in the middle. Its not strong fouled food taste, but its there. Is this spoiled food taste supposed to be cheese taste? I have tasted strong cheese, but its nothing like this.

Why isn't the sauce salty like the ones in Cheezy Wedges? We know Jalapeno cheese was used for Cheesey Wedges and combo'ed with mayonnaise for some sour balance. But this version of cheese is very bad. I don't think it can be used to dip anything at all, even for dunking chicken pieces in it. I am fairly certain this is the exact reason why every junk food manufacturer made sour cream onion instead of cheese onion because it does not work. The star sauce sucks.

Strangely after the meal, when i'm sipping on Mountain Dew, the slight onion after taste kicks in a little. No onion burps either.

Verdict : 1.5 /5 (The sauce is a bad product. I included a close up of the ingredients so you can see what goes inside the sauce.)

Remarks : Average value because if bun removal and slight price up for sauce. Else just go normal snack plate. You will not miss out on anything.

I have never posted in kopitiam before, but I have to say this is one solid professional review. Probably just saved me from one bad KFC experience, thanks. Hope to see more of this reviews. Love the writing style, the amount of tryhard is just perfect.

P/s: you said you knew hot & spicy is very oily yet you still ordered it. Thumbs up.

KFC has using this same marketing strategy lately. Charging more bucks by giving low quality cheese sauce.

They don't even bother to create new formula mixture for fried chicken. They just hand out some cheese over spicy or original flavor and claim it's something new.
