Yoyogi Park - mostly cosplayers right? My gf and I don't really fancy cosplays so didn't want to go there.
Tokyo tower replaced with Tokyo Skytree. tongue.gif
Roppongi wanted to go during Ginza day, but my friend say is quite a distances so I decided to drop it. Still in my plans if we have time to spare.
Zojoji shrine? Never heard of it. Will look into it and see if is fits into which day.

Thanks! notworthy.gif
Wanted to go Yokohama but then my schedule seem too packed. LOL.
I did have Nikko in my plans, but my gf decided not to go cause it's gonna spend whole day there. Not many days we can spend there also. sad.gif

Do let me know how's the weather as I think you'll be back when I'm heading there. tongue.gif
Yes. But the itinerary is for reference. Can skip any of the location anytime. Created this itinerary just to make sure we don't wander when we have finished visiting places. Definitely won't have enough time to go all these places IMO. laugh.gif

It's great to have backups when you have extra time.. but just looking at Tsukiji, Akihabara, Ueno and Asakusa all in the same day does sends shivers down my spine... haha.. To assist your planning, maybe you can highlight which one of those is a must go and which ones are optional. It will help you to decide on the spot and not let go of places you really wanted to go in place of just "Meh" locations smile.gif

just an observation. what your friends say can be true and can be not true depending on how much of a foodie you are, how much you enjoy sushi/sashimi, and what sort of exposure you've had with good sushi prior to your trip.

if your palate more 随便 (anything goes) then sure, most of the shops around tsukiji will be very good. but if you already used to eating at places like taka by sushi saito in st regis; then most of the shops in tsukiji will be disappointing.

after all the fish might come from the same market, but better sushi shops have better connections to procure the best fish. and also have better skill in seasoning and forming the shari, better ideas in flavouring the neta, etc.
*
Is Tsujiki market still there? i thought they moved to a new location since Nov last year?

Thanks a lot! After asking the stupid question i went online to search also. haha i was thinking if i need to apply IDL then got to apply early cause i'm going australia later  - then remember australia dont need IDL. LOL.

Sorry for the hassle. THanks agian !  notworthy.gif

Aus needs IDL if you're on travel Visa. Student visa only requires a translation sheet from the embassy. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I have question about the Nikko All area pass. Have anyone used it before? Usually how does it work? After purchasing the pass in their assigned outlets, do i still have to buy a train ticket? Or do i have to exchange it for a separate train ticket when i buy the pass in the same office?

These kinds of information is not very clear and i can't find any details in their official site.

u can buy the pass at Asakusa Station, they will gv a pass indicating a starting and end date of your pass.
just show the pass to the ticket counter every time you want to go in or out of the station.

so u don't hv to buy another train ticket or exchange for a separate ticket.

Thanks for the reply smile.gif

So i can use that pass on the stated date on any departure time i decide on the spot?

Hi, anyone have any ideas? As they're bus tickets, i think it's easy for those tickets to run out. But when i tried to book online, if kept on giving me invalid information error. Which i think it's due to the format of the phone number given (I wrote Msia phone number).

*Edit* Nvm, i found a way to do it.

Suggest you try to take bus to Kawaguchi-ko lake and see Mt Fuji. Whole trip is gonna take you around 1 hour 45 minutes. I took the fourth earliest; 8.45am. You can refer to their schedule here. I did a day trip there too. This bus service to Mt Fuji is only reserving the seats. You only need to pay when you go to their counter with the reservation form. You can go another day since it's not paid beforehand. So double check on weather websites to make sure the weather is clear before you decides which day to go. rclxms.gif

Once you reach Kawaguchiko station, get red line bus pass, go until Red Line Station 22 and view Mt Fuji yourself. But beware, red line is once every 15 minutes if I'm not mistaken, and 30 minutes for green line. Very easy to miss and forced to wait if you don't time properly. I wasted almost half an hour there doing nothing. laugh.gif

Also, you should try their coroquette in Kawaguchiko Station!

Here's me, taken by my girlfriend a month back. wub.gif I was lucky to be able to view without any clouds blocking the view. Some even got luckier, they get to see pink-ish Mt Fuji!

[attachmentid=8598566]
My gf carefully unseal the pack and the last day she carefully seals it back. It doesn't seem like it was opened before.. laugh.gif

THat's very useful information on the Kawaguchiko buses. From the website, it said pasco cards can't be used on these buses. Is it true? But i will only be there on a day trip, so the 2 days pass probably won't be worth it, but i don't know exactly because the fares are not shown for this bus type. Is it worth buying the 2 days pass?

I used MAS from Kota Kinabalu.

I brought about 110k Yen there. and i spent a bit more than 80k yen... I shared my food with my GF most of the time and we only had side food most of the time instead of main dishes in restaurants. So we saved quite a bit there. We spent more than 1k per person on meals only twice, once on okonomiyaki and then one more time in a ramen restaurant. However, i bought some of my toys using credit card.

Thanks for your sharing, i wanted to know how was the experience in the places like Nikko, Kamakura and J-World biggrin.gif
*
Nikko is an amazing place, because it was raining the whole day for my first day there, i had to change mt itinerary to do the historical walking self-guided tour going through all the shrines. The shrines ranges from huge and grand (Toshogu) to secluded and just a small shack, but it is still interesting to walk through all of them. As for my trip to Chuzenjiko, Kegon falls and Ryuzu falls, it was snowing when i was there, so i couldn't get onto the ropeway for the best view of the area, however, Kegon falls is still amazing to look at, if possible, pay the extra fee to take the elevator to the viewing platform and have a closer look at it. Ryuzu falls however is a big contrast to Kegon. It's a much smaller fall, however, it has it's own elegance to it, you won't be able to appreciate it unless you take a time to view it. They all can be reached relatively easy if you have the All Nikko Pass.

Kamakura was more commercialised that i thought. I'd watched a lot of blog posts and youtube videos before i went but it turned out to be more touristy than i expected. However, if you'd never been there, it's still an interesting place. There are a lot of shrines in the area, but if you're in a hurry, i'll recommend to visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (being the biggest in the area) and Hokoku-ji temple. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu requires further fee to visit the treasure room and Hokoku-ji temple also requires a small fee to visit the bamboo garden. I will recommend to take the Odakyu Kamakura-Enoshima pass.

As for J-world, we didn't pay to play all of the games and attractions inside, so it's only 800 yen for the entrance, if you like the anime released by Jump, you'll be able to enjoy an easy 2 hours just going from room to room for the theme they prepared for their major anime (One piece, dragon ball, naruto, Haikyuu and Kuroko).

How is the weather in Tokyo now? Temperature of day and night? Just wear a t-shirt inside and windbreaker jacket outside sufficient? Has the sakura blossommed by the time you left Tokyo?
*
The temperature was very low while i was there. It dipped to around 8 degrees everyday.. and it was about 3 to 5 degrees in Nikko and Kawaguchiko. It was even snowing at Chuzenjiko too. When i left, it just started blooming, it should be in full bloom this week.

I will recommend some heat-tech if you can, also, gloves and get a face mask at a convenience store there if you feel the wind is too strong.

Whoa both of you super small eater then. Especially in cold weather + extra calories burnt from sightseeing, normally when me n my wife go holiday we eat quite a bit more than during normal days lol.
*
Heh, maybe we're small eaters. We could be too busy doing sightseeing than eating.. laugh.gif

But still, if you buy all the small snacks you see on the road (or even convenience stores, we had a lot of fried chicken there.Heh) , you can easilly skip a lunch or breakfast. Hehe

You'll have to get used to walking in Japan though. Hokokuji temple was quite far away (about 30 mins of slow walk), but everyone else was walking too, so you won't feel alone doing it. biggrin.gif

Don't worry, can always buy there smile.gif but if you already have it in your wardrobe, might as well bring it. And getting heat tech is a reasonable investment. It was really comfy.
Feeling excited for you!! If you don't have a heat tech, and feeling the need to get one - can always grab one in Tokyo. You can find it in Uniqlo. Apart from Ginza, there's also a Uniqlo in Nakano,  though smaller scale than Ginza's outlet.

Good to hear your parents have them. And get them heat packs from convenience stores to keep their hands warm.

See whether you need gloves. If yes, buy them at Daiso! Only 100yen for a pair, really cheap. You can even choose the ones where the glove tips are touch screen enabled, meaning you can use your smartphone without taking off your gloves. I've only visited the Daiso in Harajuku so if you're keen to drop by, check out if there's anywhere else that has Daiso.
Tour bus to Mt. Fuji? You mean follow tour? Him actually you can do the Hakone on your own, without paying for tour. Just get the tickets from Odakyu in Shinjuku station, and opt for Romancecar (top up 890yen for adult) to save travelling time. It's comfortable and only take 1.5hours from Shinjuku.

Optionally is to checkout for buses that goes to Hakone.
*
I brought the gloves from Daiso to my trip there, it was kinda useless though cry.gif Maybe my tolerance is low, i can't feel my hands most of the time even with the Daiso gloves on. Haha...some thin leather gloves might be better though.

MY basic itinerary for Tokyo.

Basically this trip is all about food and sightseeing, minimum shopping.

Day 1
- Arrive at Heneda Airport at 10.35pm.
- Check in Airbnb at Shinjuku
- Find Ramen for supper

Day 2
- Shibuya
- Harajuku

Day 3
- Asakusa
- Sumida
- Ueno
- Akihabara

day 4
- Tokyo Station
- Ginza
- Shimbashi

Day 5
- Tokyo Disneysea

Day 6
- Tsukiji
- Odaiba

Day 7
- Take tour bus to Mt Fuji

Day 8
- Back home.
*
Day1: Ramen can be found almost everywhere, for me, they all are very good. I have not found a ramen that's bad in Tokyo. Ichiran (due to it's popularity) is very crowded during meal hours, if you're willing to queue, then you can go for it. I hate standing in queue during holidays, so i just went to other ramen shops and it's still pretty amazing.
Day2: If you don't plan to shop, you can even fit Shinjuku as your last stop and have a walk through Golden Gai at night
Day3: Again, if you don't plan to shop, Fitting in Akiba is ok
Day4: Tokyo station and Ginza are expensive places, it'll be a good place to buy the popular and expensive souvenir food to bring back though.
Day7: Do check the weather report before you go, if it's raining, best to schedule it on another day (That's why i won't want to recommend taking a tour bus)

Well.. I'm bringing heattech, heat packs(hand and sweater) and the ultra light down jacket.
Maybe i'll get a convertible collar coat when i get there if still too cold. But will prolly cost about RM400.

ehhh i'll cross that bridge when i come to it.
*
If you can, bring a scarf too, unless your jacket is perfectly capable to seal your neck. I have a low tolerance to cold, so when it was 6 degrees over there, i had 2 layers of normal heat-tech, a shirt, a jacket, scarf, face mask and gloves. biggrin.gif
