Has anyone done Nozawa Onsen before? I'm doing 6 days there with a 4 day ski pass. Not quite sure what to expect tongue.gif

None, or very little night life. Far from train station, in/out to nearby city is by bus, forgot already if hourly or twice hourly. Not so much food variety, konbini is small. Other than that, okay la. Lots of onsen/sento, some need schedule to go, others just open, no need to pay.

Sounds perfect for a quiet snowboarding getaway! Thank you very much!

Would you recommend anywhere else in Japan for snowboarding? I've been to Niseko already

Like eidrag said, it's a very quiet town. Slopes are typically not crowded, hardly any queues at the ski lifts. Nozawa Onsen also normally gets huge dumps of snow, but too bad the year I went was a "dry" year so some of the slopes on wrong sides of mountains tended to be patchy / icy.

Hi, would like to ask opinion whether my itinerary below worth to get Kansai thru pass?
Specifically the 3 days pass for 5200 yen, will it be worth to buy 2x the pass covering unlimited rides total 6 days everything?
Been to Osaka, but used the usual ticket way, buy when needed. Hotel staying at Tennoji area.

1st day, noon arrival KIX > Tennoji/Shinsekai > Dotonbori/Shinsaibashi
2nd day, Kyoto full day (Going Arashiyama, Kiyomizu & Fushimi Inari Shrine mainly by train)
3rd day, Nara morning > Umeda evening
4th day, Kobe full day
5th day, Kuromon morning> Wakayama/Osaka Castle/Dotonbori/Shinsaibashi
Last day, morning departure KIX

i did see ppl using selfie stick
but use it moderately
tokyo disneyland/disneysea has a big crowd...many ppl walking here and there
so your selfie stick may cause inconvenience to other ppl

Judging from you itinerary, i assumes you will only need two day pass which is for Kyoto whole day trip and Kobe.
As long as your day trip expenses does not over 1700 yen, it is totally not worth it to get, unless you want to get the privileges where you have to go through 3 pages list of the shops.
Other than that, you just need icoca card will do

From the website, it is just 20 minutes by bus from the station. So, it should be considered as not far. The nearby shinkansen train station (Iiyama) was just recently built and starts operating in the middle of 2015.. which is less than 2 years ago.

I just been snowboarding a bit only, mainly at Hokkaido, so cannot give any more suggestion. You already go to Niseko, that one is the top spot already.
