hi guys, Just got my hands on the M.Zuiko 75-300mm II. I gonna go to LIMA17 for the airshow. Just wanna ask as this lens don't come with lens hood with it. (Olympus love to sold it separately ) Do I really need a lens hood for this lens? It come with Oly "ZERO" coating tech and I paired with a Kenko MC UV filter. And I do know this lens have a problem with "lens creep" issue eventhough the hood will only weight few grams..

QUOTE(samsungfreak @ Feb 9 2017, 04:33 PM) Hood is very very useful and effective on tele lenses. You can skip hood for wide angle lenses but try to use one with tele lenses. When there is sun outside, just play with your tele lenses, anytime there is bright sun outside your frame, the contrast will drop significantly. When you put a hood on, you get back a lot of the contrast. However if you compose a shot with bright sun in your frame, hood doesn't do anything. One of the advantage of m43 is that not only the lens is smaller, but the hood is also smaller. Never had thought about the drop in contrast before. But i guess it true as the hood does focus the light to the lense and preventing stray light from going to. Thanks QUOTE(Someonesim @ Feb 9 2017, 09:23 PM) I had 75-300 II last time, bought a 3rd party hood ( JJC ), very useful to block sunlight from side. Yup i know as I was the one that wanna buy your 75-300mm before, but kinda stuck with low cash that time. Seem like maybe need to order the JJC LH-J61E for it then. The JJC is build using plastic or metal? I want to reduce weight as much bcoz this lens do creep alot.

QUOTE(gogo2 @ Feb 10 2017, 07:12 PM) [attachmentid=8477838] 43lens with m43 body. The lens just dwarf the camera itself. Looks like will be needing a hood also.

QUOTE(Someonesim @ Feb 10 2017, 02:07 PM) Hahaha ya, I dont have filter on the rest of lens except 12-40 pro ( hood too small cant act as protection ). Focal are far than what I need ( except when moon are big and pretty and I wish I had that 300mm x 2 focal ) so I sold and aim 40-150 pro better IQ and suitable focal. Now with MC14 I got from Japan, it's complete I have a 40-150mm normal version not the pro. Sold as I need extra reach during the airshow. Sometime I do birds photo and the 300mm X 2 does give me some xtra reach.

Sorry for asking. My cousin need help to send his panasonic 7-14mm and 14-42mm lens. Both caught some healthy fungus. I already told him many times for 2 years to store in dry cabinet (RM300 oni). He afraid to send to some local shop because afraid might wear off the coating. He prefer to send back to Panasonic for the repair.
