ST Marine lays keel for Singapore's fifth Littoral Mission Vessel

Shipbuilder ST Marine has laid down the fifth Littoral Mission Vessel (LMV) on order for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).

The 1,250-tonne platform, which will be the future RSS Indomitable, was laid down on 11 November at the shipyard's facilities in Jurong.

Indomitable is part of a contract for eight LMVs acquired by the Singapore government to replace the RSN's 11 Fearless-class patrol boats, a number of which have been in service for more than 20 years.

First-of-class Independence was launched in July 2015, while third-of-class Unity was launched in October 2016. The fourth vessel, Justice, is currently under construction at ST Marine's facilities in Benoi, having been laid down in May 2016.

The LMV platform features a length of 80 m, a beam of 12 m, and a draught of 3 m. Powered by two MTU 20V 4000 M93 engines each, the platform can reach top speeds in excess of 27 kt, and a standard range of 3,500 n miles at 15 kt.

The LMV's suite of weapons include a 12-cell vertical launching system (VLS) in the forward section that can launch MBDA's VL Mica anti-air missiles, and one Oto Melara 76/62 Super Rapid main gun.

All eight LMVs are expected to be operational by 2020.

UMS Tabinshwehti Stealth Corvette Myanmar Navy

Kim Min Seok, senior researcher of South Korea from the Korea Defense and Security Forum (KODEF) said that the new ship of North Korea's West Fleet has linked some resemblance to the stealth ship of Myanmar Navy's UMS Tabinshwehti 773.

The ship was developed from the Anawratha class (so far reported 2 ships were built named UMS Anawratha 771 and UMS Bayinnaung 772). Further reports that the Myanmar Navy is currently building new stealth corvette Tabinshwehti class, this add another one.

While the stealth frigate of Myanmar has entered into service in the Navy,  there were 2 frigate Kyansittha class named is F12 UMS Kyansittha and F14 UMS Sinbyushin.

The installation of weapons and equipment of UMS Tabinshwehti 773 from a variety of sources, such as cannon Oto Melara 76/62, Myanmar get it from Italy. Cannon AK-630 and short range surface-to-air missile from Russia. Anti-surface ship missile C-802A and anti submarine warfare from China. This ship also equipped with a helipad, no helicopter hangar on the ship.

GOVERNMENT SHOULD ASK SINGAPORE AND INDONESIA FOR HELP

New Zealand First congratulates the government for accepting the assistance of overseas militaries, but is puzzled why Singapore and Indonesia haven’t been asked given landing ships of those two navies are in New Zealand right now.

“If the intention is to get people out of Kaikoura and to get heavy earthmoving equipment in, along with food and water, then landing ships are purpose designed,” says Ron Mark, New Zealand First Defence Spokesperson and Deputy Leader.

“These vessels can generate fresh water, have kitchens capable of preparing bulk meals and offer medical facilities too. They are floating sea bases and could support and accommodate emergency workers too.

“Singapore’s RSS Resolution and Indonesia’s KRI Banda Aech are here now for the Navy’s 75th and could have easily sailed with HMNZS Canterbury.

Basarnas akan beli 13 unit helikopter AS365 Dauphin lewat PT Dirgantara Indonesia. Heli jenis ini dipilih untuk melengkapi tiga helikopter yang kini sudah dimiliki sehingga jumlahnya akan genap jadi satu skadron. Komitmen ini diambil sebagai upaya untuk ikut mendukung pengembangan industri strategis dalam negeri. Demikian ungkap Kepala Basarnas Marsdya TNI F.H. Bambang Soelistyo dalam jumpa pers usai Serah Terima Dua Helikopter AS365N3+ Dauphin, Selasa (15/11) di Hanggar DI, Bandung.
