If you are a Malaysian citizen holding a Singaporean Permanent Residency, your children need to serve NS, even if neither they nor you have Singaporean citizenship

Probably they will be posted to Civil Defence, but serving in the Armed Forces is not out of the question

Correct. Unless you give up PR before reaching call-up age, if you are a Malaysian citizen with no SG PR but 1 of your parents has SG PR, you are eligible for NS.

And if you give up, can say bye bye to any thought of a career in SG SG Govt has damn long memory and is pretty vindictive in this matter

*with the vast array of SAMs and CIWS in existence the best antship weapon is a sublaunched torpedo. Thats the Western doctrine anyway.

Wild-ass guess here: perhaps they have an operational lifespan, if we take them out of store and install that means they start to depreciate already, in a few years will need to buy replacement?

But I know sea spray and air is highly corrosive

And taking them out could mean activating them 1 way or another; like a car - leaving it in storage, battery disconnected, tanks drained, tires deflated etc. is different from keeping it ready to use ie launch.
