Lets start the true story.
On 28/Jan/2007 03:58:40 am, i received a sms from a guy (A) (^666^ told me get the lap from his friend.), deal my laptop at LYP starbucks at 4 pm. I reached at there at 3:++ pm. Yes i early. Wait till 4:3+ pm, A no call me, then i sent a sms to him told him im very sleepy. Surprisingly, A call me back and tell me he is dealing with another buyer. Our dealing start at 5 pm, because A and buyer go ATM, and some accidendly on some ATM machine is down.

On power, registeration wizard, and all working fine. Happy got free laptop bag too^^. I checked no scracth or else error on laptop, hardware is matched with the specs too. Too bad i dont have bring my pendrive with some software for check the more detail on the laptop, such as product key of the windows media center edition. The sticker product key is start at K, the product key i checked on 28/Jan/2007 Night is start at H. Not match!

Yeah........the climax time is start at here now. I sms to ^666^ or DevilMan, told him about this.

Me sms to ^666^: my product key is not match with the sticker product key. why?
^666^ reply me: what product key?
Me sms to ^666^: ******, this product key can search by goole. The installation date of os is 27/Jan/2007. some of u format the notebook.
^666^ reply me: Never format la.

After that ^666^ call me, say alot of thing, told me that ******** product key is product id wor not cd key. :shakehead: :shock: ^666^ told me he is microsoft certified engineer on msn. ya~ you are engineer. mayb u are not is product id engineer. -.-'

And we chat on msn. He say a lot again. And i sent ^666^ a screenshot with PC wizard showing produck key. ^666^ said it's product id. lol wtf man. Yao Gao Mou! (my os now). After ^666^ see the screenshot, he t-i-u gao me, said it's product id la. We chat chat chat, then i go to IM with microsoft 24 hours online services. Ask n confirm from Microsoft about product key and cd key. The Microsoft's guy called Vis told me and confirm it's is same thing. lol alamak ^666^.

I think he dont know the software is pirated. yes~ the key has bypass the WGA and can update on microsoft update, but the key can search by Google, thats means the key is leaked key. Will be ban by Microsoft. I dont know how come like that, manufactur false or who else?

Hi deepcool0922, the CD key installed in your system could actually not be the same as the COA sticker below your notebook as Royalty OEMs like Dell or HP tend to install systems with 1 master key and then prefix the COA sticker for future installations.

There might be other ways to clarify this. First does your HP comes with an installation cd (not a recovery image but a full installation disc)? If it does, can you open it up and browse to the i386 folder? Search for a file called WINNT.SIF. If the file is there, open it up in notepad and browse to:

[UserData]
ProductKey =""

If the product key is listed, check it with the key installed on your system. Bear in mind the key will only be listed if your installation disc does not require you to input the product key during setup. If the key is not listed, you can always call up HP and verify the key with them.

If you have a legit key, and a recovery/installation CD, I don't see any reason why ^666^ should refund you RM500. That's just ridiculous.

However, I'm still interested to find out why the OS was installed with a leaked key (if what PC Wizard reports is correct).

^666^, it's in your best interest to reply politely. Although you're dealing with deepcool0922 now, other prospective buyers may read this post of yours in the future. Would they want to deal with someone with this kind of after-sales support?

bro deepcool, nowadays HP or IBM or Dell as long as they use recovery console, all the product key are the same amongst a batch of same product line.

You can use a tool to burn a bootable Windows XP Installation CD based on the i386 folder provided in Drive C, and then during installation progress, key in the Product Key printed on COA Label.
Trouble is, you need to reinstall every single drivers for hardwares.

Next time please google first before complaining such question again, no offense you already spoilt your own image.

Hi deepcool0922, if you have notice, your key is also used in another 2 HP notebooks in the google results. This could most probably mean that the key is a master key. As for leaking it out, you could see from these 2 links here and here that the 2 guys accidentally posted it. So its probably not ^666^ fault at all.

I uploaded the pic with the key. Remind again, yes, that is legit key, u try to search the key by google, see what result coming out. That key can search by google, means not only me using that key visit microsoft update. The key will ban by Microsoft too. PC wizard report uploaded too.

2. Go to HP service center, and ask clarification for them? Say you receive these item and this is the problem. Dont tell them hanki panki story, we are staff there ok. You destroy our career, I will personally find you.

3. Get an other expert opinion, you think the call center are experience engineer?
They dont know squat, most of them are L0.5 fresh grad. Product engineer? Do you think I never go to microsoft licensing seminar, have you???

4.Get other people notebook and compare them with. As I stated again and again, I never ever power up you bloody notebook. (As per many sifu here already stated that sometimes manufacturer use one main key for the whole batch and when you power up the system detect 27 as your windows setup. Have you thought of that?

5. Do a police report, but... I dont think people and police will entertain you without getting proper letter from HP or Microsoft.

6. If you think the other option above you unable to do just... Burn the notebook, kill yourself and go to hell.

To Deepcool, i seriously suggest u retrack ur statement on accusing 666 of selling you a stolen product unless you are very SURE of it. The internet is not operating on a legal vacuum. If he slaps you with a defamation suit, you could be in very big trouble.

Try bringing ur HP notebook to a local service centre to get it verified before making accusations. I have purchased a few lappies through LYN and most of the time you can bring to local service centers and they will happily verify if its legit items.

If HP service center confirms that the laptop is indeed installed with a pirated OS, i'm pretty sure ^666^ is glad to exchange a new one for you. i've been reading the post from the first page.... but i find it weird why did deepcool0922 mistaken a Product ID with a CD-KEY instead?

The product ID is clearly stated 76487-OEM-0011903-00803
CD-KEY : HYHV7-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-B2FQ8

As far as I know, OEM product ID and CD-KEY comes in a batch...
I'm a pro in this but so far i noticed most Product ID show in the PC sometimes different from the COA sticker... especially OEM
Sometimes OEM in the ID is replaced with a set of numbers 590 - 640 on the COA. probably comes up as 76487-590--639-581(example).
Anyway, I don't know if what I say is true. I'm just assuming.

The problem might be that you didn't phrase your question correctly when asking the technician and he might be thinking your notebook is installed with another OEM key. As I've already explained earlier, the key was leaked because people has posted it online when asking for support. It's not like they intentionally leak out the key to the public. Now even the online technician is asking you to go to the nearest HP center to clear out your doubts so I guess that's the best course of action now instead of trying to establish who is right and who is wrong here.

^666^, i understand your situation, but please be careful with your choice of words. It would be in your best interest to settle this dispute as soon as possible considering you just got cleared from a previous one.

deepcool0922, if you are not willing to listen to suggestions on solving this problem, and keep going around accusing others without proper investigation, you should not be doing anymore transactions online. There are many suggestions on how you may go about to confirm whether the OS key is genuine or not. Also, considering you already have a sticker with a license key on it, you can always reinstall your OS with that key. Check whether the sticker is genuine

Im just woke up. I chat with the HP and Microsoft till 6 am. If i got the receipt, that is good. I settle it by myself.

He is a pro, better then senior engineer in HP.
He is so so great that we wanna con him his OS.
I really regret doing dealing with him, better I just take his money and run away.

Well, i think you solved the case yourself then. If the WGA tool says its genuine, then it is genuine. Also, you have the COA sticker on your laptop to say it is genuine. You can always call up Microsoft's piracy hotline to check on what type of system your key is registered to (they usually will know your model number etc so if you reinstall it elsewhere, you need to call them to reactivate).

In the event as you claim someone else "stole" your key, you still are the genuine owner of the cd-key, and you can always call up microsoft to reactivate it in any case. Nobody is going to tell you that the key can be used "forever". If you go around distributing your key to everyone, it is highly likely that Microsoft will blacklist the key, then you will have to carry your notebook (public transport or otherwise) down to Microsoft's office, so that they can check your COA and issue you a new key.

nowaday most of OEM Computer come with preinstall OS with a master key, this is mainly due to speed up installation process, u can always check pc (assume it is OEM like dell, hp, IBM, Acer) the product key on your chasis is always different from what u caould in window install at ur computer

sumtimes seller ( not pointing to 666) ghost their hardrive of the laptop to speed up installatio process, so most buyer or retailers need to format n install the laptop when buyer nought it (coz nid to register name).. so to buyer of laptop, next time pls reformat n reinstall ur laptop right after purchasing it, as it's not activated, n the preinstall os is juz for buyer to boot up n testing only...

Would like to give my 2 cents bout Microsoft's licensing and those OEMs that they give out to Mass Production centers like Dell, HP etc.

1) About the Installation media.
Windows no matter Home or Pro comes in few flavours as you all should know.
OEM, Retail & Corporate<-- used by *ahem* bcause it doesnt need 2 activate.
Products Keys from OEMs cant be used by other Installation Medias
Those from Retails applies as well as same to Corporate Product Keys.
Actually Corporate Keys are called VLK as you all know la. LOL
Installation medias used by Manufacturers are actually pre-built media that microsoft offers to them as a tool. It will only install the OEM flavour. That's y you can see the Registration Wizard n such when u 1st boot up ur spanking new system. N those logos as well. Actually their not using media la, their using Server to install windows to their machines.
And their Server is set to use the master key to install windows
Mind you, it's not tat easy to setup for those not trained.

2) About the Product key.
The COA sticker on every unit is unique, and that's call a kind of hard license which you need to stick it physically, the product keys(CD keys) used to install windows are a kind of soft license to prevent misused installations, microsoft utilizes WGA / Activation Wizard to keep track of it, preventing reinstallations on multiple computers.
Ok, here's the twist, this is what i know, bcause using Activation Wizard on Mass Produced units needs a big database of Product Keys, which they need 2 verify on every single unit thats sold is burdening, so what they do is put the support on the manufacturers shoulders. This means microsoft don't really support on the Product Keys that they have passed to those Mass Producing Manufacturers. e.g. U hav an OEM media, u install on another PC(not HP), then u use the keys from HP, u hav to activate windows, it won't let u activate online, if u try to call the activation center, the operator will ask u to call HP direct.

Ok, u guys now should b asking how those manufacturers activate their copies, rite?
Also from wat i know, every system that they produced has a code embedded to the flash, hardware level, so the recovery media that HP gives to u, with the windows inside. Will check the Product Key with the code, if its valid, you won't get prompted to activate windows.
But don't get confuse, it doesn't mean every recovery media is binded to a single system. As it uses complex algorithms to calculate the validity of the Product Keys. Wat's considered valid is valid.

Sorry ya guys if this confuses u, cause i'm not a good writer, its hard 4 me to put it down on words. LOL
