What level is your trainer? Max I saw a magikarp CP is at about 180. That was before the CP balance and stuff... So its normal to get below 100CP

need to farm more magikarp and level up trainer level perhaps? im 26 and i get about cp 100ish max as aswell

First thing is that magickarp got nerfed in the rebalance and lately everything not just magickarp have very low CPs in my area.

I don't mind since I'm just grinding stardust.

The biggest magickrap ie level 30 is 200cp
So ~100 is not surprising for level ~20

Even at level 30 I have never encountered 200cp magickrap, only 150 highest

pre evolve mons have different attack moveset after they are evolved. u r level 20 right? just transfer that ponyta and use the one that already near your trainer level. use ivstats to find out your pokemon's current level. your mons max level at your current level is +1.5. if u r level 20, your mons max level is 21.5

1stly in PoGo CP is god, unless your pokemon really have exceptionally bad moves eg Gyarados Twister or Vaporeon Water pulse

2ndly Movesets change when you evolve

So candy the Ponyta, evolve the other one

P.s. Rapidash generally sucks, Arcanine or Flareon are the better fire types. So evolve just for the pokedex/museum

Why not fair when gym heavily favours the attacker?

With dodging, the dragonites are easily taken out by 2k or less fairy or ice attackers. Snorlax abit more difficult... But do-able even with vaporeons.

Been quite stingy with stardust and candies; and yes, normally i only do 1-2 p/ups depending on stardust and candies.
Yesterday i saw a gym nearby my place at level 7, with mons from 2.1k till 2.8k and was thinking it would be great to slot in a mon at higher level. For the past week, i was lucky because 1 of my gyra ard 2.8k managed to hold up in a gym for 3 days (now kicked out). On the 3rd day managed to get another gyra also 2.8k into another gym and it has been holding for the 3rd day today. Hence, p/up my 1 good cp/iv snorlax. Lunch time just parked into a gym.. lol. Nowadays no luck finding snorlax to get candies - relying on buddy only.
I haven't maxed it out. Just p/up to ard 2.8k. If i max it out now, probably knocking 3,0xx cp (level 31 only)?
Now, I wanna see how long it takes me to earn back that 100k dust... lol
Btw, i'm still hoarding my stardust.
Its not unfair, just that you need to do a lot of catching up.... lol
Look at it this way, if you do go and battle gyms now, your battling skills will increase because with lower cp mons you will need to attack-dodge-repeat.

If i had it, would just use for parking. Its cp good enuf to get to tier 3-5 where i'm playing.
What sniper on the roof means is - because the game favors attackers, even with lower cp mons, you can still take down higher cp mons with proper dodging and choosing type advantage.

Lol... if you feel the game isnt fair for new comers, by "nerfing" gym battling, it would then be unfair to the players that started out first right?

These 2 depends on luck... hardcore hunters depend on 3rd party trackers and msg group. Just try your luck... btw, ppl have been stating higher spawn rates of rare mons a day before nest migrations.

Frankly the game is very biased towards beginners.

Beginners can get to lvl 25 (by which you'll have reasonably competitive pokemons) very very quickly... much quicker than a lvl 33 player can get to lvl 34.

You only need 710K XP to lvl up from 1 to 25 while a lvl 33 player needs 1million XP to get to 34.

Also above lvl 30 pokemon power ups cost a lot more for only half the power up CP.
But at the same time, everyone can get at least one Vaporeon using the naming trick and Vape is OP enough to be competitive against almost everything actually.

Ic... i still have some space on the bar... if i had more candies would test it out and see how much is the max at my current level.

Without the sightings list, kinda hard to locate snorlax without 3rd party apps.

A 2.5K Lapras can take down 3x 3K+ D9.

Btw, You don't have to defeat all 10 to drop the gym's prestige
