Bureaucracy. Samsung HQ definitely intended to get over with this replacement ASAP. But the distributors in some countries have their own agenda rather than facilitating a smooth replacement on HQs behalf.

i've read other reports that also mentioned abt bigger battery being "cramped" into the "small" space within the Note7, so, it's like there's more "pressure".

so, i'm wondering... if battery size remains the same, will this mean it'll stress the new batteries?

Samsung could of course put a smaller battery... but, will customers be happy about that?

i'm on of those still with a powered up Note 7 though it's not being used actively.

i carry it with me all the time coz i dun wanna risk leaving it at home, in case it just catches fire and burns down my office. ditto as well for office.

and what i understand, this is a battery design flaw. ON or OFF, the risk is still there. so, might as well i leave it on while i carry it with me. i sometimes use it to take photos so i can compare it with my current temp phone...

This is not the battery design flaw. Rather, it is manufacturing flaw. The battery cell design is not the problem that cause the battery to overheat and catch fire. It is the case that hold the battery cells.

i guess u can also consider it manufacturing flaw.

while the cause is still unknown (investigation still on going), what i understand:
* anode and cathode inside battery can possibly be touching and this can start fire/ explosion
* battery packed into small area causing more stress/ pressure. this case also cause anode and cathode to touch. also, this can also cause increased heat

Latest report from the 1st explosion case in China. Report attached below (in mandarin)

ALT battery factory (The battery supplier of China's Note 7) released an official announcement today. Based on their early stage analysis, they claimed that the root cause has nothing to do with the battery. Based on the burn mark of the phone, they claimed that the heat source was not only coming from the battery iself, it might also caused by some other factors.


So ALT has spoken. They said it's not their responsibility. In other words, they kicked the ball back to Samsung.
