When Marc Márquez started to race in the CEV he weighed so little that his bike had to be weighted with 21 kg to reach the required minimum weight. A problem that was repeated in his first year of the world championship, this time with 16 kg of lead spread over his 125 cc. That meant that little Marc had to control a bike that weighed more than double him, the reason why his team began to compare him to an ant, an animal that is so small but at the same time so strong that it can lift 100 times its weight.

In addition to its strength, Marc also shared a great capacity for sacrifice, perseverance and team work with this insect. Due to all these similarities, in 2012 he decided to pick the ant as his mascot. Since then, the ant’s image on his helmet reminds him that hard work is the only way to win every time he goes out on the track.

I don't think engine configuration is the problem, Yamaha still won championships with inline-4. It's just Ducati & Honda progressed far ahead (in electronics) & Yamaha were left behind. Only recently they hired someone from Magneti Marelli solve the problems (Ducati, Honda & probably Suzuki already hired the best MM technician ages ago).

Changing to V4 isn't the solution either. V4 is just fast on the straights but inline-4 still have the best handling (Yamaha used to be this but now Suzuki has overtaken them in bike development). Both have their own pros & cons.

Forget HS55, Zarco first time on a year old Honda also 4 places up.

Difficult to say if Honda is the best bike coz the other Honda riders did poorly, so the bike was just tailored to MM. This year's championship is all about MM domination, so other aspects don't seem to matter.

Most improved bike is Yamaha towards end of season.

Honda not so good this year except in the hands of MM. He basically won all it all for Honda.

Ducati seems stagnant, neither here nor there.

Suzuki has the most potential, almost there but not quite.

Aprilia sometimes good, sometimes bad, not great.

KTM basically same as Honda, Pol took all the glory.

I cannot really comment on riders as some had different spec bikes, some injury, some pure bad luck but clearly most disappointing is Lorenzo. I remember he broke his leg at Yamaha but returned within a few races despite doctors advise and did well, so year-long injury recovery is kind of ....
