I'm looking for a compact camera for amateur landscape photography and travel. Never got into DSLRs because of the bulk so I have minimal knowledge of using them. Interested in Canon G7X Mark II but a bit too expensive for me. Wondering if it's possible to find anything with similar specs between RM1k-1.5k?

Pretty sure it's not going to be cheap. Maybe look into sony RX100mk1 or RX100mkII?

Are any of the models suggested good for low light & night shoots though? I forgot that I mostly have a bad time with iPhone cameras now because I can't get good pics at night.

Your best bet is still Canon G7X mark IV, G9X, Sony RX 100 Mark III. EOS M10 may be OK as well but I think best to test it.

Unfortunately fast lens compact camera don't come cheap. You need to spend a bit more for a good low light camera. There are cheaper older models like the 10mps DMC lumix with f2.0 lens which you probably get second hand or online.

Alternatively you can buy a cheap entry level camera m4/3 or apsc (mirrorless) from second hand and pair it with a "pancake" prime lens which is usually fast and quite cheap depending on model. But still that probably still cost roughly around RM1800 if not mistaken.

Hmm, based on online reviews, I'm leaning towards RX100M2 atm but I'm gonna look for a 2nd hand Lumix. I'm too noob to spend more for a too advanced kit. I'm willing to go a bit more than 1.5k if that means the specs will be vastly better.

I wont say advanced compact camera is for expert only. If you r into taking photos even only for instagram or FB, it is a worth while investment even if you have to do rm2k+ damage control in the meantime. Camera unlike phone can last quite a long while before obsolete. RX100mkiii is already close to 3 years, yet people still recommend it over newer models.

For compact camera for use during travel/holidays that is better than phonecam, would Olympus TG4 fit the bill? As price is around Rm1400-1500.

Is weather seal one of your requirement? If no, go for a5100.

Camera noob here. I've recently bought the Canon EOS M10 and pretty new to camera photography (been shooting on iPhone for the longest time). I haven't had the time to really play with the new toy yet but recently I've taken some test shots and transferred it over to my phone via WIFI. Something weirded me out - the file size of the image captured with the EOS M10 is relatively smaller than the ones captured by the iPhone (like 900KB on the M10 vs. 1.5MB on the iPhone). Is there a setting in the camera that I need to look into to ensure I'm shooting with the best image quality? I understand that there could be many variables that could cause this, i.e. ISO settings, lighting of the environment, etc. but just want to ensure it's not caused by a camera setting that I may have missed. Could it also be the file is decompressed as I transfer it wirelessly? Would it matter if I transfer the photos over by connecting the camera to my computer?

Recently got the EOS M10 and tried it at low light setting. Pretty good if you're just starting out. Nothing too fancy and it's easy to use. In-built flash is also pretty good. Interchangeable lens and no hotshoe, but for the price I think it's pretty worth it. I got mine recently from MV. Canon had some 10 years anni promo and got mine at about 1599 with lotsa free stuff and extended warranty.

You need to transfer it directly via cable / card reader. Those pictures transferred via WiFi are way smaller for the sake of lower transfer time and easier to share (consumes less data usage). They are intended just for you to view inside your mobile device, not on big screen nor editing.

Canon m10 ok ke. I noob here. Point and shoot most of the time. Just wanna venture into new hobby. Wanna learn a bit of tricks. Maybe few years later can upgrade

Got check the Sony RX100 series.It might be slightly high price in your budget, but its damn worth it. For me priority for compact cam has been ISO as I want to be shooting in low light. My RX100 has been able to deliver good pictures in low light and its compact when on travelling too. Anyway now got some coupons at 11street, u might get a good price.

Outdated sensor + Slow AF. The targeted consumer is selfie girl that doesn't have clue on how to make use of a camera. Sony a5100 is clearly the better choice.

lack of prime choices as well unless you buy an adapter for the ef lens but that defeat the purpose of being small..
