How long can a tyre last b4 we need to change? Asking in years term. Coz my in law car tyre raptured/exploded. Car mileage is only about 30k. So the threads are still good. But the car is already 8 years old. And I just checked the other tyres n 1 of them already got benjol.
So my question is how long can a tyre last even though the threads are still good?

QUOTE(kkk8787 @ Aug 31 2016, 11:31 AM) some cars only 10k mileage by then wow 10k after 4 years? very low usage. i would still change it cos the compound would already be hardened, affecting the overall effectiveness of the tires. i knew of a guy who used his tires for more than 6-7 years, and the threads were like 99.9% bald. and he told me the only issue he had was the road noise. anyway, it's not a lot of money to change 4 tires, and I'd rather stay safe.

The type of rubber used is important. But since no one knows what is being used in making these tires besides rubber, best to gauge that with the price of tires itself.

More then 4 years is dangerous to use the tyre Tyre mileage can vary from 20k to 80k depending on tyre model

How long can it actually last? Depends on your driving style and road conditions.

So my question is how long can a tyre last even though the threads are still good? You can't decide when tyre need to change based on years or mileage. It's combination of many things. Best is check on tyre condition and actual driving feel. The tyre used for 8 years but only 30k km, sure very seldom used. Most likely the rubber have harden and brittle. QUOTE(:3mushy:3 @ Aug 31 2016, 11:57 AM) Shelf life = In about five years How long can it actually last? Depends on your driving style and road conditions. +1 A lot people confuse shelf life and usage life. It's 2 separate things.

So usually my indication of need to change tyres is by the threads. But my in laws seldom drive far which is y their mileage is low n the tyres looks ok. So I never advised them to change. Didnt know b4 this tires actually have a certain lifespan. I thought as long thread is ok still can use .

So my question is how long can a tyre last even though the threads are still good? manufacture gives 3 years warranty. normally 5 years unless everyday exposed to direct sun & rain. and apply typre protection on the side walls can help slower the rubber deterioration. rubber will harden and crack when old. if you park the car for long time not moving, the pressure point will focus on 1 area and that area will become weaker and start to crack especially if under-inflated (common when car parked too long). side walls usually crack because it's the weakest area and weight sits on them, thick tyres tend to have weaker side walls.

QUOTE(iSmart @ Aug 31 2016, 04:28 PM) Mine 13k on 8month How long need to change tyre? See the tires depth indicator. Your tires should have few big longkang. One each of the big longkang, there's a few tiny bulge. When the bulge is same level with the surface, almost time to change. If low mileage, then can either drive until it burst or every 5 years from manufacturing date to be safe.
