You could go buy normal led TV( Hisense 50") for under 1.5k then invest another 300 on android box and then start watching Netflix and many more with it and ends up with more satisfaction and cheaper deal

Walk into stores around you.. View a couple of models your eyes like and within your price range.. Come back here and list said models.. Doing such leads to better recommendations..

can ask in this thread if this model will meet yr needs.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4009313

just be aware only certain brands and models are approved by netflix for hd/uhd quality.

unapproved tv's and boxes will only give u sd quality.

as min size for uhd4k tv is 50", i doubt yr budget will be able to get any of those uhd/4k netflix approved.

It's your choice, you ask for opinion

Smart TV has limitation, subscribe to Netflix is recurring mthly payment, limited hard-disk space

Smart android box, will always have better speed, processor, flexibility, bigger hard-disk and perhaps no recurring mthly cost when watching HD or 1080 movies, dramas, documentaries, sports etc etc

Consider long term ownership operating cost, satisfaction and your initial buying cost

Cheers

A basic Google search didn't turn up English results on the Samsung 43K5500. Are you sure it isn't a Samsung UA43J5500? If so, then definitely go for the J5500.. Why? Cuz at the very least, HDMI-ARC is supported, larger screen size and has an extra HDMI & USB port over the 40J5200.. Which are important.. IMO

Oops.. My bad.. I did see that page during my earlier search but thought it was a Vietnamese set/import.. So I found the K5500 officially listed on Samsung Malaysia's website, but only the screen sizes 49" & 55" were listed. So double check with HM on the official warranty status of the 43". The "K" represents it's a 2016 model, while the "J" stands for 2015 models. So, hardware-wise between both, I'd say go with my original suggestion. The rest depends on your eyes. Mange your expectations..

Thanks mate for all your help! - Do you mean to go for the J-2015 model instead of the K-2016 model?

What do you mean - manage your expectations?

Thanks!!

Go with the K5500 and see if you can't stretch your budget a bit to get the 49 inches instead. What I meant by manage your expectations is that, TVs priced around this price range won't possess a "wow" pq... So go easy on what to expect.. smile.gif

Typically, if a bigger screen is your thing, you might be able to find past years models.. Though I wouldn't advice going higher than say 55", unless it's a high end set, which obviously cost way more.. Cuz crappy quality at 40" will look even crappier at 55" or more.. Plus stretching..

Software interface wise. I do recommend Samsung followed by LG. I have used Samsung smart TV before, also LG and now I'm using Sony led smart TV. I think the worst is Sony. The app store is not updated. Even in Sony entertainment network got no iflix apps, no viki apps, and no viu apps. When I used samsung smart TV before, I got viki premium for free.
But if you can find Sony Android TV for price under RM2000, that would be the best for you.
If I'm not mistaken, only Sony, Sharp and Philips adopted Android as OS for their smart TV in 2016.
So if you can find any if these brands with android as their operating system, you're good to go.
That's my 2 cents.

I bought my Sony Smart TV from Lazada before for 1.4k in 2012.
