Customers are directed to either visit the retail store where they purchased their phones or to call 1-800-SAMSUNG to exchange the device through the mail. In addition, affected customers will receive a $25 credit on their phone bill or a $25 gift card for their troubles. Samsung did not say when the Note 7 will be available for general purchase.

Typical ppl spotted !

Well why would SME give us the same as Taiwan?

We should be grateful already, Samsung offered the replacement on the defect without any condition etc.
*
what "typical"? while we're all grateful Samsung is doing this total recall, it's also because this recall can potentially be fatal.. imagine burning down house, etc..

some ppl don't live next to SC. some are out of town and this exchange is actually making then have to travel extra.

while I won't say SME should compensate, but if they do, I think it helps make things better for all. costumers are happy. and happy customers is always good.

earlier I did suggest some form of compensation that don't really "cost a lot" like:
* free second year warranty. fact is, most of the time, the hardware is still good in year two sms not many will claim. they only lose extra revenue from sales of warranty.
* let customers keep accessories.. well, some stuff like ear buds don't really get refurbished, so, might as well let ppl keep it. maybe cables and adaptors too..
* SP.. well.. this one do cost them to lose some money. but if Samsung is producing it, fact is.. the cost is like s few cents only. having said that, if they don't give also I'd still buy new ones.

I agreed with the dunk phone in water part, but where does using a phone without case and screen protector count as abusing the phone? FYI I have always use my phones naked as IMO it looks uglier in a case and sp then to have hairline scratches on the phone, and I don't sell my phones also. Just my 2 cents.
*
the using phone naked part.. I believe it's more to those who use a case but now intentionally use without.

Say would you spend 10K in a court case for a RM3000 phone? Make no sense.

Bringing it to court cost a lot of money. Big companies can drive the plantiff out of money by playing the dragging game and delay the court. This is how some of the malaysian businessmen make money and be rich. To steal from others and nothing they could do about it.
Not sure about many class action here in Malaysia. Does it even work?
*
iirc, consumer tribunal.. rm10.

once again, what about water resist feature? lollll
*
i dun like to swim or watch phone while bathing. but ya, i guess it's a give and take... depends on what ppl want more. and i guess Samsung feels ppl prefer water resistance.

i'm ok either way, though with non-removable... 3 years down the road, Samsung may not have any more batteries for me to purchase.

my note 2 is still going strong. all i need is just a new battery and i can buy those more "branded" 3rd party batteries even if i cannot find official Samsung ones.

Galaxy Note 7 recall is on the table following battery explosions
http://bgr.com/2016/09/01/galaxy-note-7-re...ery-explosions/

...Samsung concluded that the faulty batteries are to blame for the explosions. Samsung SDI is the group within Samsung that makes batteries for the Galaxy Note 7. That is, Samsung SDI produces the battery cell, but the battery pack production is outsourced to other firms. Korean ITM Semiconductor produces the battery pack for the Galaxy Note 7’s that are sold in Korea. ITM’s batteries seem to have been the ones that exploded. Meanwhile, most phones sold in China are going to have battery packs from Chinese company Amperex Technology....

possibly only affect Korean units. but... never know...
*
hmmm... looks like China made batteries may be only for China.
China’s Galaxy Note 7 is still on sale because Samsung is using a different battery supplier there
http://phandroid.com/2016/09/02/china-gala...battery-recall/

which probably explains why the recall is a global one.

Galaxy Note 7 recall: another phone just blew up in Australia (updated)
http://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-ga...-recall-714419/

Android Authority reader Tham Hua says his Note 7 “exploded” while plugged in and charging. The first two pictures show the device, and you can see the aftermath of the incident in Tham’s hotel room. Fortunately, Tham was not injuried seriously, but he did burn his finger while throwing the burning device off the bed.

Following the incident, Tham got in touch with Samsung Australia, who will provide him with a loaner device.

Take this incident as a reminder that, despite the small odds of something bad happening, you should still try to get your Note 7 replaced as soon as possible. In the meantime, don’t charge your device overnight, don’t leave it unattended while charging, and don’t charge it on beds, pillows, or in other where an overheating phone could start a fire.

I'm Note 7 user too. I don't have any issue with my phone now. No bootloop No freeze.

Should I return the phone to Samsung now? Or should I wait till replacement stock is arrived?

Please advise.
*
ultimately, this is your own decision.

in a way, you can ask yourself... do you feel lucky.

from what i understand, basically ALL global units (except China) is actually affected, contrary to what some local CS is saying.

back to the lucky part... statistically speaking, it's still small. i think earlier article shared a few pages back says something like 1 in 40k.

if you think you're lucky in that sense and have a spare phone to use... then ya, send it back to Samsung.

but if you think you are not so lucky as to be the 1 in 40k, use the phone until Samsung Malaysia is ready for 1-to-1 swap.

Bravo to Samsung Australia, how about Malaysia?
*
quoting the article:
QUOTE
The company said Samsung customers could receive replacements or full refunds and courtesy devices would be available on Wednesday for those who had to return their phones.

QUOTE
“It’s a different story if the phone comes as part of a contract for service with a telco. In this instance, if the service can no longer be provided because the phone is dangerous, you might have a right under the guarantees within consumer law to cancel the service.”

they have strong consumer rights group and awareness... smile.gif

Don't think they will repack and sell as New set ....their goodwill and reputation concern
*
this recall is supposedly due to battery issue. so, Samsung need to just replace battery with one from new batch and they can sell as refurbished.

so? explode then bring court for 10x compensation
*
QUOTE(Max2006 @ Sep 6 2016, 05:14 PM)
So your life is only worth for 10x compensation? I would rather keep myself safe rather than risk myself for that 10x compensation. totally not worth it. hmm.gif
*
true.

if explode and burn down house, etc... i wonder can really sue samsung since technically, they did announce recall. is there official statement to say we can continue to use? or supposed to be all returned?

coz if all returned but we didn't... technically, we're the one in the wrong.

guess need to read the press release again.
