HR-05 MOD-by lolhalol

Ok I promised you guys a TR mod so here it is. It will be a semi-guide/pictorial.

I will be using a HIS X1650 Pro graphics card, but I think you can use this mod on most cards that use the same mounting system, but I strongly suggest that you don't use this mod on any card higher than a 1650xt, because I doubt that it can handle the heat loads of the high end cards. Also once you use the hr-05, u can't fit the card
into a case anymore as the HR-05 is very tall.

You will need:-
1) Needle nose pliers
2) A small Philips screwdriver
3) TIM, mine personal choice Arctic Silver 5 or Ceramique
4) Arctic Cleaner 2 Step cleaning solution
5) Tack Cloth or any cloth

Ok let's start of by looking at the card.

It uses an old school Arctic Silencer. Even though it is quite and U.V. reactive, I think my hr-05 can beat it.

You can remove the heat sink by unscrewing four screws at the back.

Look at that, the amount of aluminum of the stock heat sink is a lot.

Then the card looks something like this. Naked. tongue.gif

Here is your HR-05 kit.

Take the longer cross bar, and put the push pins through, like this.
user posted image

Apply your Tim, but before that remember to clean the core and the base with arctic clean.
user posted image

Then just push the pins through the cards mounting holes, I suggest you orient the heat sink in the way I have, if not the heat sink will touch the PCI slots.

And you are done. Simple right, took me less than 10 minutes.
Here are some more shots of it.

You can also use many other chipset heat sinks, like this the ZALMAN ZM-NB47J.

Some shots of it running with a fan mounted on it.

Well, the main problem with using this kind of mod is, it will eat up more pci slots, so, no room for crossfire nor SLi... sweat.gif

In general the basis of heat pipe refer to the heat would transfer from the hot end to other cool end. under the condition the cooler is not mount upside down ......

since this HR is mounted up side down ... would the heat able to transfer from hot to cool end as quickly possible as heat goes up faster rather than goes down...

well now days heatpieps can work even if upside down, coz of the wick inside. anywy this mod i snot intended for cases, for openbench, and so far seems to be neter than the stock cooler coz can oc more, but this is in no way to judge the performance.

Unless u bend the heatpipe a lot that makes the liquid in it hard to evaporates... laugh.gif
