Huh? Last week changed gearbox, this week asked to change engine? Something's fishy here. Better double check the gearbox condition. I think the mechanic trying to cheat your dad.

Change engine? If your engine is well maintained, not necessary to change. For the GB, biasa ler...fragile

ok. the problem arose half a year ago. when the car has no power even when i floor it to the max. and fc is high. the gearbox is a problem for sure. everytime when its time to change gear, it disengages and then there's no drive. like u step on the pedal on N gear. so went to mech. took it out n change the whole thing. gear changes are fast from 2nd onwards but not 1st to 2nd duno y. den after awhile the engine started to jerk. n today the mech took out the engine. my dad said those piston heads looks like its burnt. and the crankshaft is like 80% screwed. so my dad decided to change another same engine. 1.6 cuz of the road tax and the price of engine. 1.6 costs 2.5k 1.8 costs 2k. sigh..10years old car really eats up our wallets

if there's nothing seriously wrong with the engine, do not change it. changing to another engine that's almost the same age can set u back quite a bit. in my personal opinion, i will only change the engine if the engine is beyond overhauling.

There's no guarantee that your "new" engine will not be messed up too.

Go to another mechanic and get a 2nd opinion. You may just need to change to another gearbox, or better yet, convert it to manual. The 4G9x auto gearboxes tend to be very fragile.

Changed to a screwed up 2nd hand engine is no different. Next time ask around before doing the change.

Usually GB last very long with periodic gear oil change. Unless your car have a very powerful engine that could crunch the gear away or you always rev high.

1.6 WIRA is well known for its problematic auto GB. It is the worst GB that came out from Proton.
