Hey Fuji community!

I'm a TOTAL beginner when it comes to cameras, had to get this off my chest sweat.gif
So please bear with me, sifus!

I've been thinking of getting a camera for some time now and after much research I stumbled upon Fuji cameras. It was love at first sight! biggrin.gif The colors & filters (esp classic chrome), the retro look(silver ftw thumbsup.gif ), just beautiful! Okay, enough gushing!

I love traveling, so I want something light(bear in mind that this is coming from an Apple user) and easy to use, yet produces great image quality & bokeh. Saying this, I guess the obvious answer is X100T.....BUT I am worried that I might wanna take a closer shot of .....say, Mt. Fuji? Do the sifus think a fixed lens will be a problem for me in the near future?

So my problem here is.....

XT10(18-55mm lens) or X100T?

Thanks in advance! smile.gif

fruitie// What is the advantage of the X70 over the X100T if you don't mind me asking? Are they not both fixed lens? hmm.gif Ahahahaha! I agree that interchangeable cameras are so much lighter compared to DSLRs, I cannot imagine myself lugging those monstrosities around sweat.gif I tried holding my friend's Canon DSLR once, snap decision right then and there, NO DSLRs for me sweat.gif sweat.gif

kelvinling// But aren't the XF line better performers than the XC? I am planning to stick to one lens if I buy the XT10, which is why I wonder if the 18-55 kit lens will be much diff from the fixed lens of the X100T/X70? I do think it's a hassle to change lens too tbh hmm.gif For Mt Fuji, say how about I want a shot of the entire mountain with lake..so I will be standing across the lake. And my budget is 4k and below thumbsup.gif

woonsc// Ahahahaha! The XT2 is expensive! No budget sad.gif I'm currently using a MacAir and already very satisfied with it! biggrin.gif

kenary820// X100 or X100T? I thought it has in built flash? hmm.gif I have considered a tripod stand for solo travels, but wouldn't it be in the way of others when I set it up?

For 1st question, the x70 is smaller than the x100t due to lack of viewfinder for the x70 but it had swivel screen that can flip up for taking selfie (*Call it whatever u want  whistling.gif ) which the x100t had a fixed screen  sweat.gif. The x70 have a 18.5mm fixed lens while the x100t have 23mm (28mm & 35mm in term of full frame lens equivalent), it a tad wider that some prefer than the other. What interest me for the x70 is the conversion lens u are able to buy for the x70 which change the lens perspective to 21mm in full frame format  drool.gif , which is good for wide angle shot (**The x100t has conversion lens that equivalent to 28mm and 50mm).

2nd question, not sure about the difference between XC and XF lens, but I tried it at the shop and the quality of pic using XC lens is good, nothing to complain about  hmm.gif . Lens wise, I can get macro shot as near as 10cm from the subject with x100t, I'm pretty sure the kit lens cant do that  tongue.gif (Correct me if I'm wrong  biggrin.gif ). I don't know how  far is mount fuji and the lake, but the best bet for wide angle shot is the x70 and the conversion lens but that will exceed ur budget I guess(**Need clarification on this, does x70 plus conversion lens goes beyond RM4k)

Yes x100t has flash built in, might not be strong enough, but can try bounce the flash using small mirror if u are indoor to get that external flash look  laugh.gif. I bring tripod in the luggage bag for trip but never got it out cause it a hassle to bring big tripod around while u are touring  sweat.gif (PS: I do bring my joby gorilapod tripod in my bag cause its smaller that my regular sturdy tripod  icon_idea.gif )

Thanks for all that information! I did some read up on the X70 too and I really liked the aspect of the cropping to 35mm and 50mm implemented! I think I have narrowed it down to X70, it really seems to fit all my needs! But I do have a few more questions... sweat.gif
1. which produces better bokeh?
2. how big is the conversion lens? I think I've read somewhere that the lenses are big and heavy? Which defeats the purpose of the small & portable X70...
3. what about the touchscreen? or would a viewfinder still be better?

To answer your question regarding X70 vs X100T.

The X70 is a small camera and it's quite handy for travels. You can fit it in your pocket and doesn't even take space in your bag. X100T is bigger. Still doesn't take much bag space but you'll have to hang it around your neck.

You'll have a large articulating touchscreen which is perfect for selfies, but what interest me more is the ability to select AF points on the go. Personally, I feel it's quite handy that you don't have to press any button or rotate any dial to select focus points. Advantage against the X100T? Yes, for touchscreen. Negligible for the articulating screen.

Plus, it comes with Classic Chrome, which I love to death when I had the XT-1
You'll have a wide fixed lens which is perfect for landscape, a tad too wide for street, I guess the X100T would be a better choice for street. For both cameras, it's quite restrictive in terms what you can shoot, but in a good way, it helps train your composition skills. Also, with the fixed lens, you'll most likely avoid having Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS), and spend less. There are lens converter but I've never find any need to purchase one.

Regarding the lack of viewfinder, I was worried that this could be a turn down, but it turned out fine transitioning from the XT-1. It didn't bother me to see everything through the screen, by the way it drains your battery. You would need extra batteries or a powerbank to charge on the fly. I have 2 additional Wasabi batteries and a separate charger. I've gone on commercial sets, taking "behind the scenes" photos and videos with the X70 and I ended up using all three batteries. A disadvantage, but still you can workaround it.

Is the X70/X100T, a good beginner camera? I don't see why not. you'll still be able to do everything manually for you shutter speed and aperature. You'll have the ability to do manual focus (FYI on the X70, the focus ring is quite small and could be troublesome sometime, but I rely on the camera's AF). ISO, you'll have to go through the "Q" menu.

Lastly, the X70 is way cheaper than the X100T.

Yes, I do love the aspect of the portability of both the X70 and X100T!( I don't mind strapping on neck) and I ADORE CLASSIC CHROME! smile.gif
But I beg to differ about the articulating screen, I do think the screen would be useful for hip shots.

1. What about bokeh? Since it's f/2.8 vs f/2, do you find the booked on X70 good enough?
2. The X70 has an auto/ manual quick switch button, does the X100T have one? (for my parents/strangers to take shots of me tongue.gif )
3. How long is the battery life? Roughly. ( I don't take videos )

of cos any x100 series suit your budget..flash got external better...thats why you need to learn to make good use of external flash..but again depend...some people just happy to point n shoot..sone are good at it..btw photography is an art smile.gif

Indeed it is! I've always been a point and shoot kinda person (i6 camera sweat.gif ), but I do like the idea of getting to know photography better ( but not to the extent of hoarding lenses and worrying too much about the tiny details) I usually just post my photos on instagram and recently started a blog smile.gif

Articulating screen for hip shots, yes. I just don't like the idea of using the screen for selfie.

1. Bokeh - Till now, I have not taken any shots that matters in terms of bokeh. Honest opinion between both, it's negligible since it's, 0.8 difference, but I could be wrong. Comparing this to my 23MM F1.4, then I would say big different. Keep in mind that the camera has a cropped sensor (F2.0 = F3, F2.8 = F4.2). If you're talking about the "bokeh-ness" while doing product/food shots, I think it's good enough at F4. I based this on a conversation I had with one director of photography, he usually use F4 (Full Frame) for portraits, which give him a nice sharpness of the subject's eye, keeping the front of the nose and ears in focus. Anything lower, you could lose some facial features. This is subjective though, some like it softer, but he added that you could make it softer in post.

2. Not sure about the dedicated auto dial, or lever. You'll have to research about that. The X70 also has wireless connection, not just to transfer photos from camera to phone, etc., you can control the camera. Change shutter speed, aperature, focus point, ISO, etc.

3. Roughly about 270 shot. Get a couple of spare batteries. Bare in mind as well, the X70 doesn't come with a proper battery charger. You would have to plug the micro USB in to a wall adapter. I highly recommend getting those Wasabi battery packs (2 batteries + a charger).

Thanks a lot for patiently answering all my questions! I will take what you've said into consideration thumbsup.gif

hello, can anyone recommend a bag for XT10 + 18-55mm lens (with neck strap attached) that is easily accessible?

edit: what about screen protector, is it necessary?

Is that your only setup? No other lenses or flash?

In that case I think your everyday backpack or sling bag can do, just slot it in. At least that's what I always do haha.

Yep just bought it, going for a trip soon. If I slot it in my backpack, will it get scratched easily? Esp the LCD screen...

You could always buy a small pouch to put it in before putting inside your everyday backpack. As for the screen, either get a cheap plastic one or if you're willing to splurge go for the glass one. Definitely better than leaving it naked.

thanks! I think I will do just that. thumbsup.gif

Yes... got sp but given free by the shop and installed since day 1... you can buy cheap sp from eBay...

Oh was wondering if I can buy the phones screen protector and ask them to cut it to fit mine? Or better to get glass ones?

Also, the camera case you recommended confirm can fit 18-55mm lens right, not too tight? No pure black?dont really like the green stripe there 🤔

And about batteries, why is this one cheaper than the usual RM258 for ori?

Should be non ori... and typically around that price for 3rd party or generic type of battery...

Ok to purchase? Or any 3rd party brand to recommend? Don't want to be carrying more than 1 charger though
