Seriously people, if an f/4 can't survive that condition then an f/2.8 wouldn't fare any much better.

Furthermore the lens has OIS so if there are no moving subjects then if could gain 2 - 3 stops of stabilization so the only thing you won't get to freeze are like moving waters or fauna.

While the 18-55 f2.8/4 may be called "kit lens" because it comes in a kit, it is by no means a "lousy lens". The problem with photography community is everything "kit lens" is immediately deemed as bad.

Yes, that's precisely the point.

Can't generalize that "kit lens = lousy lens"

Some are OK, some are good!

Canon has models with L lens as kit, same Nikon has models with gold ring as kit.
